Renewal of an Employment Pass

Your employment pass is usually valid for 12 to 24 months, and you can apply for a renewal six months before the expiration of your current work permit.

In this article we will be discuse about Employment Pass Renewal, Employment Pass Application & processing time and more related subtopic.

The EP's renewal, however, is not guaranteed. The company sponsor's business activities will still be scrutinised to see if they have enough to hire the current EP holder. As a result, it's always a good idea to plan ahead of time for the documentation needed before proceeding with the renewal.

Application and processing time for an Employment Pass

You can apply for an Employment Pass in one of two ways:

Online Application: Create an Employment Pass Online account under a Singapore-based company or hire a visa agency to help you with your application. After submitting an online application, it usually takes 3 weeks to receive a response.

Manual Application: Get a manual application form from MOM and fill it out with all of the required documents. This application can be sent via singpost, and it will take 8 weeks to process. Also, if you are, we strongly advise you to apply online because manual applications can cause delays in your application and add to the complexity of submitting additional documents.

What documents am I required to submit in order to apply for an Employment Pass?

Biodata on a passport;
Form 8 of the employment pass application must be fully completed and endorsed by the sponsoring company.
Detailed description of the sponsor company's business activities and the product or service it offers;
Job responsibilities of the applicant.
a copy of the candidate's most recent resume;
Previous employers' testimonials
Aside from the documents listed above, you may be required to submit additional documents such as proof of business activities or a detailed explanation of why you require the applicant.

The duration of a work permit's validity

An EP's validity varies and is as follows:
Applicants who are applying for the first time – up to two years
Renewals of EPs – up to 3 years

Employment Pass Cancellation

When an EP holder leaves the company, the employer has seven days from the last day of work to cancel the EP holder's employment pass. When the EP is about to expire, you have one day to cancel the pass. The cancellation can only be done online with the help of the employer or an employment agency.

If an employment pass is cancelled, the holder will be given a 30-day short-term visit pass to plan his or her departure. It is the applicant's responsibility to obtain tax clearance from Singapore's Inland Revenue Authority prior to departure (IRAS). The employer must also settle all outstanding salary owed to EP holder.

What is the deadline for submitting an Employment Pass application and what is the process?

Unless your circumstance requires it, Rikvin submits all Employment Pass (EP) applications to the Ministry of Manpower (MOM) electronically so that you can learn about the conclusion of your application sooner.

The application is processed by MOM in 3 weeks or longer.
We will make arrangements for the collection of your EP once we receive the In-Principle Approval (IPA) letter.

What If My Employer Changes?

The new employer must apply for a new Employment Pass if an Employment Pass holder decides to change jobs. This is also true if an employee with an Employment Pass moves from a subsidiary to the parent company or vice versa.

Before approving or denying the new Employment Pass, MOM will evaluate the candidate's eligibility and qualifications, just like any other new application.

The Employment Pass holder does not need to cancel his or her existing Employment Pass before applying for the new Employment Pass.
