Anderson is an ancient Scottish clan name meaning'servant of Andrew", the patron saint of Scotland. Multiple branches of Andersons can be found across Aberdeenshire - in Dowhills, Western Ardbecks and Candacraigs respectively.

Gareth Southgate of England wants to add Whitley Bay-born player Callum Wilson to his squad, while Scotland boss Steve Clarke wants him on their side instead.

Elliot Anderson

Newcastle midfielder Elliot Anderson faces an important decision regarding his international allegiances. Born in England but qualifying through his grandmother as Scottish, Anderson previously represented both nations at youth levels before switching back to England for one U21 call-up in 2021. Following further consideration, however, he's committed himself back to Scotland ahead of a Euro 2024 qualifier against Cyprus and friendly against England scheduled next month.

Joey Barton of Bristol Rovers has drawn comparisons between Diego Maradona and his young player after seeing them perform against Northampton. According to Barton - formerly an expert scout for Newcastle United - who witnessed them play, Joey says this youngster possesses more technical ability than anyone produced by their club for many years.

Anderson is an aggressive player with excellent dribbling and passing skills. A tireless worker, he's always willing to track back and defend against threats on the pitch. At 5ft 7ins tall and 138lbs weight - both figures considered average for his position - Anderson stands tall amongst his peers.

Harvey Barnes

England are closely monitoring Newcastle United duo Elliot Anderson and Harvey Barnes' dual nationality status, which has caused much debate. Anderson was selected for Scotland but later withdrew after qualifying through his grandmother. Barnes qualifies through both grandmothers.

Barnes won a cap for England during a friendly against Wales three years ago, but did not make Gareth Southgate's initial 55-man shortlist for last year's World Cup and is thought to be reluctant to change allegiance now.

Barnes is an aggressive forward who enjoys getting into the box from either left flank or centrally, often drawing comparisons with Sadio Mane's direct style of play. Rodgers wanted Barnes to incorporate more variety into his game - such as breaking forward more frequently into inside channels or into the center of the pitch and sending more passes out wide to strike partners such as James Maddison - who thrives when given space by Barnes.

Steve Clarke

After Scotland's loss against Ukraine several weeks ago, team coach, Steve Clarke was at home in Saltcoats spending time with his elderly father Eddie - whom he credits with helping refocus his career after suffering an awful accident. Clarke often speaks about this debt to Eddie whom helped he helped refocus it after recovering.

Clarke knows what it takes to succeed at international management from his experience at West Brom, Reading and Kilmarnock. With an impressive CV to back him up.

Gareth Southgate has made it clear he will continue his support of Anderson, who qualifies for England through his grandmother. Anderson spent two days with Scotland's squad before withdrawing and Southgate has stated his interest in having Anderson part of Three Lions squad in 2022; that decision will come down to individual preference as well as consideration from Anderson's family and his preferred sport(s). Anderson may take his name from St Andrew, Scotland's patron saint; its clan name Mac Ghillie Aindrais or Gilleandrais which translates as 'sons of Andrew's servant's servant's'.

Gareth Southgate

Gareth Southgate has done an extraordinary job with England in an astonishingly short amount of time. He has successfully revived a national team that had fallen into such deep despair that fans would lament, "football's coming home."

Decision-making by managers can be an isolating experience, even within an intimate network of trusted friends or assistants; especially when decisions made aren't popular with all involved.

Southgate is widely respected for his intelligence and professionalism as an English manager. He treats football management like a team sport and strives to incorporate opinions of various kinds when making his decisions - qualities which help navigate the complex media environment within which most England managers must operate. Perhaps his most impressive achievement, despite occasional slip-ups, has been making small yet prudent and correct decisions which have transformed England.
