Everest base camp trek- 12 days is one of the most popular treks in the world and a life-changing adventure journey into the Khumbu region of Nepal that leads you to the base camp of the world’s highest mountain, Everest (8848m). The 12 days Everest base camp trek combines awe-inspiring nature and the ancient Tibetan Buddhist culture of the locals, the Sherpas.
Everest base camp trek takes you to the base camp of Everest and the 12-day itinerary is carefully designed with enough acclimatization days in between trekking days. There will be an expert local guide to guide enough crew members.
The EBC trek goes through many villages and ancient monasteries Khumjung and Thyangboche. The trek also includes a hike up to Kalapattar viewpoint offers great panoramic views Himalayas including Mt. Everest.
You have stunning views of the world’s highest Himalayas including Mt. Everest (8,848 m), Mt. Lhotse (8,516 m), and Mt. Cho Oyu (8,201 m) and Mt. Makalu (8,463 m), and numerous of other adjoining Himalayas. The Everest Base Camp Trek goes passing through numerous glaciers; snow-filled rocks and bounders on the Everest base camp trek.
The Everest base camp trek has become more popular since the Mt. Everest was first telescoped by British Surveyor- Sir Gorge Everest and portrayed Everest with the exact location on the world map in the 1850s. Furthermore, the Everest base camp became more popular, especially after Sir Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay Sherpa successfully expedited to this world’s highest mountains in 1953 AD.
The trek starts from Lukla and goes through Phakding, Namche Bazar, Tengboche, Dingbuche, Dughla, Lobuche, GorakShep to reach Everest base camp. The itinerary to return is mostly the same trail to Lukla and fly back to Kathmandu.
Itinerary of the trek
Day 1: Fly from Kathmandu to Lukla and Trek to Phakding
You have an early breakfast at the hotel and drive to Kathmandu airport to take a short flight to Lukla to start the trek to Everest base camp.
Our guide will introduce you to the porters once you reach Lukla, then you start trek to Phakding following the mountainside on the left bank of the DudhKoshi River. It is easy trekking and takes about four hours to reach Phakding.
Day 2: Trek from Phakding to Namche Bazaar
After having breakfast at the lodge, you start trek to Namche Bazaar by following the DudhKoshi River and you cross it many times. You enter the Sagarmatha National Park in Jorsale and which is a UNESCO world heritage site and stop there for lunch in Jorsale.
After lunch, you start the trek to Namche, about a few hours of trek, you will reach Namche Bazaar. The Namche Bazar is surrounded on three sides by mountain ranges and opens out only where it faces the DuchKoshi River.
Day 3: Rest Day at Namche Bazaar for acclimatization
You stay at Namche today for rest and acclimatization. The Namche is an ideal place to spend a rest day to acclimatize to high altitudes. You walk up to Khumjung village through Everest view Hotel in Syangbuche for acclimatization and you will see the beautiful view of the Himalayas including Mt. Everest.
After visiting Khumjung, you return to Namche Bazaar.
Day 4: Trek from Namche Bazaar to Tyangboche
After having breakfast at the lodge, you start with the ridge and level mountain path that offers excellent panoramas of Thamserku, Kantega, and Kusum Kangar. After walking a few hours on flat Zigzags, you descend to the river and arrive at PhunkiTenga.
You have lunch in PhunkiTenga, you start the trek by climbing through the Rhododendron Forest to the Tengboche. Tengboche is a beautiful place for the Himalayan views, you also visit the age-old monastery in Tengboche.
Day 5: Trek from Tyangboche to Dingboche
After having breakfast at the lodge, you start the trek by descending through Rhododendron Forest to the ImjaKhola and crossing an exciting suspension bridge on it.
You trek passing by a long Mani stone wall to enter the village of Pangboche. The trekking goes continues through summer pastures to Dingboche village.
Day 6: Rest Day at Dingboche for acclimatization
Today is the remarkable acclimatization day in Dingboche. You have breathtaking views of the North face of Ama Dablam and the Lhotse-Nuptse ridge.
You walk to Chhukum for acclimatization or you can go hike to Nagarjan hill behind the Dingboche. From there, you can enjoy the panoramic view of Island peak, Ama Dablam, Makalu, Tawoche peak, and many others.
Day 7: Trek from Dingboche to Lobuche
After having breakfast at the lodge, you start the trek to Lobuche. The trek leads you north for up to 50-minutes until you come to a Mani-prayer Stupa. The trail then is gentle looking down to Pheriche village below.
The trek today offers views of Mt. Tawache, Ama Dablam and to the north-Pokalde, Kongma-Tse, and the great wall of Nuptse. After two hours of trek, the trail from Pheriche joins near Dugla before a small wooden bridge over the river of Khumbu glacier.
You then continue for an hour up a steep hill to the top, where there are views of Mt. Pumori and other peaks west of Everest. After a short break, continue trekking up to Lobuche.
Day 8: Trek from Lobuche to Everest Base Camp via Gorakshep
After having breakfast at the lodge, you start trek following the rocky moraine trail, you can view icy glacial ponds and icebergs down below of Khumbu glacier. After the last rocky moraine dunes, a short downhill walk brings you to Gorakshep. You check into the lodge and have lunch.
After lunch in the lodge, you start the journey to the Everest Base camp for another 2-3 hours and reach EVEREST BASE CAMP- WOW!!! Congratulation!!!
Your Dream has come true now, after visiting sometime in the Base Camp, return to Gorekshep for an overnight stay.
Day 9: Trek to Kala Patthar and trek to Pheriche
You climb to Kala Patthar to enjoy the view of sunrise over the Himalayas including Mt. Everest, Mt. Pumori, Mt. Lingtren, Mt. Khumbetse, and Mt. Nuptse, Mt. Lhotse, Mt. Ama Dablam, Mt. Thamserku and many more. You then return to Gorekshep and have breakfast.
After breakfast at the lodge, you start trekking down to Pheriche almost the same trail.
Day 10: Trek from Pheriche to Namche Bazaar
After breakfast at the lodge, you start trek to Namche Bazaar and it is an easier descent trek passing through rhododendron forest.
You reach Tengboche after a few hours which is a small village with a famous monastery and it also offers you a splendid view of Ama Dablam, green hills, and river views. You have lunch here and start another part of the trek to Namche.
Day 11: Trek from Namche Bazaar to Lukla
After breakfast at the lodge, you start the trek for today and it is the last day of your Everest base camp trek. The trek is pleasant, except for a few short uphill climbs then down to the Bhote - Koshi River crossing it a few times.
The last uphill climb of about 45 minutes will bring you to Lukla.
Day 12: Fly from Lukla to Kathmandu
You have an early breakfast at the lodge. You take an early morning flight back to Kathmandu and transfer to the hotel.
