The Yoga of Motherhood Course aims to explore motherhood through the yogic tradition, empowering mothers to tap into their innate spiritual powers, or siddhis, to cultivate a culture of care and community. By fostering self-awareness, mothers can develop the abilities to heal themselves and their children.

The course covers the yogic concept of motherhood from a liberatory perspective, the 5 koshas with an emphasis on the pranamaya kosha (the sheath of lifeforce), and the vital realm as conceptualized by Sri Aurobindo and The Mother. Additionally, the course delves into the connection between historical traumas and disease, and how mothers can foster communities of care.

The learning objectives of the course include:

a) Understanding yogic concepts of motherhood from a liberatory perspective.b) Learning about the 5 koshas, specifically the pranamaya kosha and its impact on health and vitality.c) Understanding how Sri Aurobindo and The Mother conceive of the pranamaya kosha as ‘the vital’ and exploring the vital realm to develop a deeper understanding of how traumas, karmas, ancestors, external influences, and our own unprocessed emotional turmoil impact our lives and those of our children.d) Expanding consciousness as mothers, being present for our emotional, mental, and physical realities and those of our children, and opening the doorway to healing through the vital realm. In-class, simple yogic techniques will be used to enter into an expanded consciousness and cultivate our innate abilities and siddhis.e) Understanding the fundamental connection between historical traumas and disease.f) Strengthening confidence, inner vitality, and health as mothers, and fostering communities of care.

The Yoga of Motherhood course is interactive and engaging, with a minimum of 1.5 contact hours with one or more faculty every week. The class is structured to promote discussion based on self-study and reflection each week.

Each week, students receive course materials to review before attending the weekly class. The course materials include readings, videos, and other resources that help students gain a deeper understanding of the course topics. During the weekly class, students have the opportunity to engage in discussions and ask questions about the materials.

The session will be held in a welcoming and inclusive environment that encourages sharing and exploration. Students will be invited to express their own experiences and viewpoints on the course themes, as well as to join in class discussions.
