When there was no paper, dried Palm-leaves (Talapatra) were used for writing manuscripts. Odia Mahabharata, Ramayana and many other books have been written on Palm-leaves.
Palm-leaf etching is a traditional and popular craft of Odisha that shows the skills of the artisans.

Apart from figures of Gods, animals and birds are also skillfully etched.
Trees, plants etc. are etched on palm-leaves too.
Life-stories of Lord Krishna, Ganesha, Buddha, Jesus etc are also available.
As Palm-leaves are eco-friendly unlike plastic, our company proposed palm-leaves to be used for making “Delegate tags”. We got such Delegate tags designed and created for Odisha Forum and Wiki Odia.
Conferences need such tags. Sustainable “green-cards” are well-received.
Palm-leaf flip-toys designed like Tiger, Bear, Bat and Joker are available in the market.
For the Asian Athletic Championship (AAC) held in July 2017, we designed a Palm-leaf flip-toy – the Olive Ridley Turtle mascot named Olly. We had great fun with Olly toys at the Kalinga Stadium, Bhubaneswar.
