Fabric Guide: What is Viscous

Viscous comes from trees but is not as environmentally friendly as other types of rayon such as modal because the manufacturing process uses high concentrations of chemicals. Viscous is cheap to produce and is a versatile fabric used for garments such as blouses, dresses and jackets, and in the home for carpets and upholstery. Anam&Irum'z provides the most stylish collection viscous vol 2 in Pakistan.

What is viscous?

Because it resembles silk in terms of flow and smoothness and is a semi-synthetic type of rayon made from pulp, viscous is frequently used as a substitute for the expensive fabric. The term "viscous" refers specifically to the pulp solution that is converted into fabric.

How is viscous made?

Viscous is made from the pulp of wood such as beech, pine and eucalyptus, but can also be made from bamboo. Due to the several chemicals used in the viscous process, including sodium hydroxide and carbon disulfide, viscous is considered to be semi-synthetic.

The viscous production process is summarized in five steps:

To make a brown wood pulp solution, the plant is cut into wood pulp and dissolved in chemicals like sodium hydroxide. After that, the brown wood pulp is cleansed, bleached, and dried. In order to create the fibers, the pulp must first undergo a carbon disulfide treatment before being dissolved in a sodium hydroxide solution known as "viscous."A machine called a spinneret, which produces regenerated cellulose fibres, spins the viscous solution through it.This regenerated cellulose is spun into yarn, which can then be woven or knitted into a viscous fabric.

What are the properties of viscous?

If you're searching for a lightweight fabric with a good flowy fit, glossy finish, and soft feel, viscous is a terrific option. It is reasonably priced and may convey elegance for a lot less money. It also combines nicely with other fibres including cotton, spandex, and polyester.

Absorbent. Viscous silk is excellent for T-shirts and sportswear since it doesn't retain heat and effectively absorbs water and sweat.

Light weight. Viscous is extremely airy, which makes it suitable for blouses and summer dresses.

Breathable. It is a very light fabric that does not stick to the body, so it is optimal for warm weather clothing.

Maintains shape. The fabric is not elastic, but can be mixed with other textiles such as spandex to increase elasticity.

How to care for viscous

If you decide to wash viscous, always hand wash in cold water to avoid color fading Do not squeeze or squeeze the item to avoid stretching it. Rinse and shake out the water and hang or lay flat to dry.

3 Environmental aspects in the production of viscous fabrics

Viscous is not environmentally friendly when it comes to sustainability because of water waste during manufacture, chemical saturation, and habitat devastation. Here are some things to consider before deciding to buy viscous:

Deforestation. While wood for viscous production can be sustainably harvested, it often does not come from sustainably managed forests, destroys large natural forests, and has a negative impact on local ecosystems.Toxic chemicals. Viscous is made with a lot of harmful chemicals, which contaminate the air and water. Sulfur, nitrogen oxides, carbon, disulfide and hydrogen sulfide are found in air emissions around viscous plants. The manufacture of other forms of rayon, such as modal, tencel, and lyocell, is cleaner even though chemicals can be reused throughout the cycle.

Waste water 3. Water is used extensively throughout the creation of viscous, both for hydrating the trees and for turning them into fabric.

Although viscous is made from renewable resources and is biodegradable, its manufacture nonetheless has a significant negative impact on the environment.

What is the difference between viscous and polyester?

Polyester is stronger and does not shrink.

Viscous is more likely to pill while polyester resists abrasion.

Polyester is made from petroleum, while viscous is made from plants.

What is the difference between viscous and modal?

Modal is what's called a "high wet modulus silk," meaning it's a type of rayon that's stronger when wet and doesn't lose its shape, which viscous doesn't.

Although the production of modal is essentially identical to that of viscous, the modal fibres undergo more processing, resulting in a stronger, lighter, and more breathable end product.

Compared to viscous, modal is more environmentally friendly since it requires less sodium hydroxide during manufacture.
