Hajj is an annual pilgrimage but Umrah can be performed throughout the year. Unlike Umrah, Hajj is performed in the last month of the lunar calendar. What is Ihram?

The literal meaning of Ihram is entering into the sacred state to perform holy rituals. Ihram is also a name of a garment that is essential to wear for men. Rules of Ihram for men and women

For men and women, Ihram's clothing would be different. For men, Ihram clothing consists of two unstitch sheets of white cloth that has no button, hems, and layers. The upper covers are called Rida and the lower body cloth is known as Izar. The upper half of Ihram covers the half-body or one shoulder of men. And lower part covers the area between the navel and feet.

Remember that men are not allowed to wear undergarments, socks, or caps. They are advised to leave their ankles and toes exposed.

Women are advised to wear loose robes and abaya that cover their whole body. It means their Ihram is included on seams or buttons. But they can’t cover their face or hands with clothes. Their footwear covers their entire feet.

This is known as Ihram clothing. But Muslims need to make the intention of Ihram and enter into the sacred condition.

Basic factors about Ihram

Miqat:

Miqat is a form of the border where Muslims wear Ihram and come into the scared condition. Many people get changed at the airport and then approach Miqat. But it is crucial to come into the Ihram state before crossing the Miqat boundary. Hajj and Umrah are started at Miqat place where Muslims wear Ihram and do the intention of pilgrimages.

Preparation:

The Muslims are advised to shape their beard, cut nails, and remove unwanted hair from private parts.

Physical purification:

Before coming into the Ihram state, Muslims must take a bath (ghusl) and do wudu. With this, it is also necessary to purify the soul.

Wear Ihram sheets:

Men should wear Ihram that consists of two clothes. And women can wear their ordinary clothes which can be worn under Abaya or Ihram garments.

Nafl Namaz:

If not prohibited time, pilgrims should offer two rakats of Nafl Namaz and cove their head before making niyah of pilgrimages.

Intention and Talbiyah:

For men, they uncover their heads and make Niyah for pilgrimages. Remember that, men can’t cover their heads after assuming in Ihram state.

After intention, Muslims recite Talbiyah three times loudly as soon as possible. But women are allowed to recite Talbiyah in a subdued voice.

What is prohibited during Ihram state?

Once Muslims come into the state of Ihram, they are prohibited to do such acts:

Sexual activity: After coming to the Ihram state for performing Umrah 2022, pilgrims can’t involve in sexual activity. Even they are not allowed to masturbate or make any dispute.Stitched clothes: Male pilgrims can’t wear sewn clothes or undergarments. They are only allowed to wear two sheets of Ihram. But they can’t cover their head. For Hajj, they shaved heads after Hajj. Males are also prohibited to wear socks and shoes.Wearing perfume and hunting animals: The perfumed Ihram is forbidden for completing Hajj 2022. And pilgrims can’t hunt, injure or kill wild animals.Shave head or cut nails: In the Ihram state, Muslims are not allowed to cut nails and shave their head.

Some basic Ihram rules for women:

Women can’t comb their hair or clip their nails during Ihram state.Women should refrain to use any cosmetic product.They can’t chant Talbiyah loudly, so they can’t attract other males.Women must plan an Umrah trip according to their menstruation cycles. Because they can’t perform pilgrimage during their cycle.Most importantly, women must maintain a distance from other men and stay with their Mehram male.

When Ihram restrictions are lifted?

After performing holy Pilgrimages, all the restrictions get lifted. In the end, Muslims shave and clip their hair and come out of the Ihram state. After Qasar, all the Ihram restrictions get lifted but pilgrims can’t make physical relations with spouses. It may be permissible after performing tawaf uzziyarah. It is suggested to get the help of Islamic scholars and get some basic knowledge of the Ihram state.
