Why is my router not connecting to the internet, you might be wondering. Try restarting your router as your initial course of action.

Reboot the Router

Sometimes routers simply seem to require periodic reboots to maintain good performance. Rebooting your router is quick and simple. In most cases, all you need to do is unplug the power cable, wait a few seconds, and then plug it back in.

You might also want to do the same with your modem's power source if it is separate. You could have a power switch on your devices, but all routers can be reset simply disconnecting and then plugging them back in.

Verify the Cables are Connected Securely

The answers to our difficulties can occasionally be surprisingly straightforward. Verify that your cables are firmly connected to your router before attempting anything more difficult. A human or creature in your house may have unintentionally kicked or pulled on one of the cables, causing it to come loose or unplug.

You should check the Ethernet cable that is inserted into the back of the router, the cable between your modem and the wall outlet, the cable between your modem and your router, the power connections to both the modem and the routers, and the cable between your modem and the router.
