Introduced in April 2015, the LG G4 was once the flagship and one of the few full-leather mobile phones on the market. Of course this does not apply to LG, as it has been discontinued and replaced by LG G6 (and LG G7). It's hard to find G4 brand new. LG G4 - Design:
Of course, leather is an interesting design choice, but I'm pleasantly surprised at how comfortable it feels. The center stitch is a particularly elegant touch, and the option of supple brown leather offers just as much grip as the black version of the dot color. The thickness is 149 x 75 x 8.9 mm, not the thinnest phone, but LG says its customers are more willing to sacrifice some extra Miller watches for a more ergonomic design - and I agree. Leather clothing, however, brings considerable benefits to mobile phones. If the leather is not your bag, it also has a cheaper version of ceramic and metal (both are made of real plastic).
They are still a good choice because the ceramic model I used for testing has a very subtle diamond pattern on the back of the phone. This makes the phone visually a little more interesting, but the feeling is almost identical to the plastic LG G3, which is somewhat dull and sticky, compared to the eye-catching leather version. After two test models, I personally prefer the curved leather back of the G4. The curve also extends to the front of the screen, but the arc is very small and is almost unnoticed unless you place the phone face down on the table. It's certainly not as curved as the LG G Flex 2, but it should at least protect the screen when it falls to the ground.
LG G4 - Display:
The 5.5-inch display with 2,560 x 1,440 pixels is one of the outstanding features of the LG G3. So it's no surprise that LG re-released this resolution for the G4. However, the resolution is not as special as it used to be, as the Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge now also have a resolution of 2,560 x 1,440. Since their 5.1-inch screens are smaller, their pixel density is 576 pixels / inch (PPI), which is somewhat above the 534PPI G4 pixel density.
LG may not have the industry's clearest screen, but its secret weapon is undoubtedly its new IPS Quantum panel. Do not be confused with the quantum dot technology that LG uses in its televisions. The screen of the G4 uses a new type of LCD that improves overall brightness and color accuracy. When you turn on the screen for the first time, the screen will pop up suddenly showing sweet and strong, bright colors and white eyes. Subjectively, it can be compared to the OLED display that I have seen on G Flex 2 in terms of pure color intensity, but the higher brightness value of G4 505.66 cd / m² helps keep these colors inside and out. It looks just as powerful, especially when you are in the sun.
The black depth is 0.27 cd / m2, and we are deeply impressed by the contrast level of G4. It is said that the contrast of LG is 50% higher than in G3. In my own test, this is definitely the case, as I measured a huge 1.715: 1 contrast, which is quite a gap in G3's 741: 1. If I compare the G4 with the G Flex 2 side by side, I can barely see the difference in image details. This is good news for people who are still arguing about whether they are suitable for this model or for Galaxy S6 and G4. , The angle is as wide as his curve brother.
However, LG's boldest statement regarding the G4 display relates to color reproduction. Unfortunately I cannot save it during my calibration test. According to LG, this is the only smartphone display that can reach 98% of the Digital Cinema Initiative's (DCI) color gamut and cover a wider gamut of color than traditional sRGB color gamut's, especially when it comes to the number of reds.
LG claims that this would be about 120% of the sRGB color space, but our color calibrator shows that G4 shows only 96.3% of the sRGB color space. More importantly, neither the red nor the yellow of G4 reached the color space boundary. Of course, 96.3% for IPS displays is still a very respectable result, and it's easy to be one of the most subjective screens I see outside the Samsung Super AMOLED screen of the Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge, even the details , The numbers (in my tests) are not fully up to LG's promise.
