The Motorola Budget Moto G5 smartphone released earlier this year is a good Android phone, but it has hit an unobtrusive camera, the performance is no better than the old Moto G4, and the battery life is actually slightly worse. Perhaps that's why the manufacturer has quickly taken over the Moto G5S, which has an improved design, a larger battery and an improved camera. If you look closely, you may notice a slight increase in screen size from 5 inches to 5.2 inches. There is no doubt that this is a step in the old G5.
Motorola G5S - design and feel:
The Moto G5S not only looks more elegant than its predecessor: it's more like an advanced phone with an integrated all-metal design that replaces the G5's aluminum rear panel. Unfortunately, it's not dusty or waterproof, but the beveled edge gives it a high-end feel, and the back-engraved Motorola logo is cleverly used as a finger, making it easier to grip and handle with one hand. The fingerprint reader stays in front of the bottom of the screen and offers dual functionality as a home button. I found it without mistakes and identified myself in an instant.
There are also a number of connectivity and extension options. The standard 32 GB internal memory is large enough to store the right size of applications and music. However, if you want more, the Nano SIM tray will provide you with a free slot that can use up to 256GB of micro SD card. Alternatively, you can insert a second SIM card to make international calls, but since there is only one slot, this is a situation.
The underside of the phone is a familiar micro USB socket for charging and data transfer. There is a 3.5 mm headphone jack on the top for those who still like wired headphones, but the Bluetooth fan is not forgotten: the built-in aptX supports high quality. Wireless streaming is not a given for your budget phone. Consider 802.11ac wireless is also good, but dual-band 802.11n should be able to keep enough speed.
Motorola G5S - Show:
As I said, the G5S screen is slightly larger than the G5. But it has the same full HD resolution and therefore a lower pixel density. However, you do not have to worry about blocky text as it still achieves a perfectly clear 423ppi. It looks good too. In our tests, the backlight has an ultra-bright peak of 500 cd / m2 and a solid contrast ratio of 1,708: 1, which makes reading and navigating easier even in bright sunlight. The G5S IPS screen has 80.4% sRGB color space coverage and is also suitable for color reproduction.
Motorola Moto G5S - Performance and Battery Life:
We've always been content with Motorola's unwillingness to customize Android, and the G5S is very similar to the installation of Android 7.1 inventory (Nougat). The Easy Touch manufacturer is a smooth update path and will be upgraded to Android 8 (Oreo) in the coming months. Although the operating system has reached speed, it is unfortunately not recognizable for internal components. The Moto G5S uses the same 1.4-GHz quad-core processor Snapdragon 430 as the Moto G5. The chip is now available for two years and works with enough 3 GB of RAM.
If you want at least to improve battery life, be prepared to be disappointed. The G5S battery is bigger than the original Moto G5, but we're just talking about increasing from 2.800mAh to 3.000mAh. In our conversion tests, we only use the conversion for 21 minutes, a total of 12 hours and 12 minutes in our videoconference. This is far from Lenovo P2 (which is no longer available), which required 28 hours and 50 minutes in the same test.
Motorola Moto G5S - Camera:
Although there is a lack of raw performance, good news for luck is the camera on the G5S is a previous improvement. The paper does not seem to change much: the number of pixels in G5 has increased from 13 million pixels to 16 million pixels, but the phase-detection autofocus and Aperture 2.0 aperture have not changed. The results, however, are self-evident. In good lighting conditions, the G5S does an excellent job of producing balanced, vivid shots. In the lower lens (with HDR disabled), the masonry in the foreground has a good definition, but the sky and lights are not oversaturated or blown out.
