The one defect, that people doesn't take seriously is their oral health.
Don't just believe me, read this research by Livemint.
It says while 60% Indians suffers from dental caries (cavities), 85% has periodontal issue (gums related diseases).
While dental hygiene is a different story, missing tooth is even worse.
Most of the time, tooth-loss in adulthood is caused due poor dental hygiene or accident.
Whatever may be the case, it seems that our people doesn't care about a missing tooth!
That because, they don't know the after-effect of the tooth loss.
So here I have listed these 5 after-effects of the tooth loss.

1. Disturb the nearby teeth
All the teeth in human jaws work in unison to chew & grind the food.
Due to this, all of the teeth receive equal amount of pressure.
Once a tooth or multiple teeth goes missing, the nearby teeth tries to equalize the pressure by moving towards the vacant space.

These newly irregular teeth are now hard to clean by normal brushing technique.
And thus are prone to future dental cavities and decays.
2. Jaw Bone Shrinks
A tooth structure has a root which is deeply merged with the jaw-bone.
As the tooth falls, it creates a vacant space in the jaw bone.
This in turns causes the remaining jaw bone to cover the vacant space, thus causing the jaw bone to shrink.

So the tooth loss could cause the bone-loss.
3. Decays the Opposite Tooth
This phenomenon is called Supra erupted tooth.
When there is no opposite force, the tooth tends to move out of the gums.
This elongated tooth is now tough to brush.
Also this extra part of tooth which comes out of gums is vulnerable to the daily acids from foods we eat.
So these tooth are most likely to get decayed and fall out.

4. Temporo Mandibular Disorder
Your lower jaw is attach to your skull with the help of two hinges (near ear) called Temporo Mandibular Joints.
[caption class="snax-figure" align="aligncenter" width="1140"][/caption]
These two joints are independent of each other, but works together in the jaw movement.
And your teeth plays a vital role in distributing the pressure equally on both joint.
However, irregular teeth could cause an imbalance in lower jaw, resulting in one joint getting extra pressure than the other.
This is can cause pain, discomfort, lock-jaw, clicking sound in these joint. This is called Temporo Mandibular Disorder (TMD).
A missing tooth could certainly cause these irregularities and may lead to TMD.
5. Affects Your Smile
Whenever you smile wide, laugh or talk, the gap of the missing tooth/teeth is pretty much visible to the other person.
These could possibly cause the consciousness about the smile, and could result in low self-esteem.
A complete set of healthy teeth could give you the confidence you need.
And you won't be remembered by the others as someone with missing teeth.
Nowadays you could fix missing teeth by doing a dental bridge or better, a Dental Implant.
Still compare to a bridge, Dental Implant is a better solution.
