How often should you wash your sheets?
According to a 2012 National Sleep Foundation survey, 91% of people change their sheets every alternate week. However, the Sleep Foundation recommends a sheet change or wash every 3 to 4 days. For households with pets, you should definitely adhere to this washing schedule.
Besides being able to sleep on pristine, immaculate sheets, there’s a healthy and hygienic reason to wash your bedding as often as once a week. When you sleep at night, it’s likely that you’re having microscopic sleepovers because according to researchers, dust mites, dust mite excrement, dead skin, and bacteria make up more than a third of the weight of your pillow!
These nasty particles can multiply and build up very quickly in unwashed bedding. For people in your household with underlying breathing difficulties such as asthma or a dust mite allergy, it might cause the problem to flare up. It can also cause eczema to worsen! That’s not all the gunk that sleeping leaves behind too, don’t forget about the sweat and sebum!
