Mousse cakes are a combination of mousse and cake that involves a layer of cake at the bottom with mousse in the centre topped by a ganache. Mousses were invented in the late 1800s by a French painter called Henri Toulouse-Lautrec. Mousse cakes are sweet and savoury with their best flavour being chocolate. A chocolate mousse cake is the most popular and delicious among the variations.
These cakes combine the savoury mousse with moist cake and complete the dish with chocolate ganache along with other toppings like nuts, cream, chocolate shavings, caramel sauce, etc.

Dry cakes are the most well-known cake that is closest to the oldest and original cake. This cake is like sweet bread but makes use of frostings, chocolate fudge, cream, etc., to generate diverse recipes, flavours, and designs. The origin of dry cakes can be traced to Egypt which was first known for baking and creating the first cakes by combining bread with sweetened honey. Over the years, many cultures had developed different dry cakes.
But the essence of dry cakes rests in combining bread with a sweet ingredient to enhance its flavour. Such ingredients include fruits, chocolates, milk, honey, cream, sauces, etc.
Differences between mousse and dry cakes
