Canada immigration service is an agency of the Government of Canada responsible for issues dealing specifically with immigrants, refugees, and status as Canadian citizens. The department has responsibility for many things dealing with immigration to Canada. For example, it is the responsible government department that controls the admission of immigrants into the country. Canada immigration service is not the same as Canada immigration consultancy. The two terms are often used interchangeably; however, they are very different and have different purposes.
Canadian immigration consultants deal with the application of immigration visas and green cards. They are responsible for the processing of visa applications and related immigration documentation. In addition, they assist with sponsorship applications and provide advice on employment possibilities for skilled workers and spouses. Most of the time, they are the ones to handle the interview and application portion of the process. Because they are involved in the visa application process, consultants cannot give unsolicited advice regarding the removal of barriers to obtaining Canadian immigration status.

There are three main types of consultants that deal with immigration: government-based Immigration Consultants, private sector Immigration Consultants, and Canadian Immigration Consultants. Government-based consultants are under the direct control of the Department of Immigration. The Canadian immigration consultant is an individual that has been approved to be at least 18 years old by the Royal Immigration Act and who has no criminal record. However, some exceptions are made for people over the age of eighteen who are members of recognized youth categories or members of recognized indigenous communities in Canada. These people may also apply for an immigrant visa under the age of eighteen if they satisfy the requirements. Consultants dealing with the immigration visa process are not responsible for any information provided to the applicant concerning their immigration history or status.
The majority of these consultants are specialized in one of the three areas of Canada immigration; Employment or Immigration, Sponsorship or Referral, and Settlement. Some consultants deal with a specific group such as women or visible minorities. However, consultants are always available to offer their expert advice on a wide variety of different immigration issues. When selecting an Immigration Consultant, make sure that they are specialized in Canadian immigration law.
The majority of these consultants are hired by Canadian employers. There are many different types of consultancies. Some are temporary in nature while others provide a permanent residency; however, many consultancies are hired by the government as well as private employers. These are also called "cultural" consultancies.
A number of Canadian immigration consultancies will not only provide work permits, settlement loans, and work permit applications but will also assist in the filing of necessary documents. Many of these consultants are available to work exclusively for Canadian employers. However, there are some that have branches operating offshore and for international clients as well. These consultants may be able to help with the filing of the application for work permits as well as the processing of visitor visas. They can even assist in the filing of exit and entry permits for travelers and workers.
All the services provided by these types of consultancies are in the name of Canadian immigration authorities. The processing of applications, providing work permits, and related services are usually done through the provincial government. These consultants available in Canada may not have an office in your country. If you wish to avail of their services, you may have to obtain their credentials from the Canadian immigration authorities.
These consultancies are very helpful for those planning to immigrate to Canada. However, the fees charged by these consultancies vary from one to another. It is advisable to compare the rates charged by various Canadian immigration consultancies. The fee you pay should be charged only after ensuring that they are properly equipped to handle any type of application that you may receive. Also, make sure that you get all the details from the consultant including their experience in handling the work permit application process and related requirements.
