Introduction

In our life, every individual will go through some sort of stress. It can be due to work pressure, problems within the family, financial problems etc. Some stress is healthy, it motivates us in life. But some are bad which can negatively affect our lives physically and psychologically. These stresses should be treated to live a healthy life.    

What is Stress?

Stress is a feeling that occurs when we have to cope up with a situation that is difficult to handle. It can occur when we have to face an unexpected situation like an accident, death or loss of a job. In normal life, stress can be work-related stress, financial pressure or problems in relationships. There are 2 types of stress, that includes acute stress and chronic stress. Acute stress occurs when we have to face any challenges in the near future ie. work pressure or when I have to meet a deadline. This stress is short-term and it can be handled easily whereas Chronic stress lasts for a long period and is difficult to handle. Also, it can be harmful to your body. It can occur due to poverty, unhappy marriages or a job that is not satisfying. It can affect you psychologically and physically. Stress can lead to anxiety and depression. 

Impact of Mental stress

Mental stress adversely affects both your physical and mental health. It can also affect your daily lifestyle pattern. It can make us emotionally weak by reducing our confidence level. Stress will increase anxiety and fear in us. Some people will get depressed and will have a suicidal tendency, and others will depend on drugs and alcohol. The risk of health issues like high blood pressure, heart attacks and diabetes can increase. These are the symptoms of being stressed.

Muscles are tensed

Stress can make your muscles tensed which can result in body pain, headaches and migraines. It can affect our respiratory system, cardiovascular system, digestive system and reproductive system which is prone to other diseases.   

Mood Swings

 

When people are stressed out their mood can be changed frequently. The happiness in their life will be affected. It can cause depression in life. They will become aggressive and will become more emotional. They would tend to stay away from the public.  

Lack of Sleep

Another cause of mental stress is getting lack of sleep which will lead to sleep deprivation. Depression and anxiety caused by the stress can lead to sleeping disorders.  It can affect the mind, memory, thinking ability and concentration and other health-related issues. 

 

Fatigue

Fatigue is another impact caused by stress. As mental stress leads to depression, lack of sleep and other health issues these will make people weak. They’ll get tired easily. This will affect their work-life as well as their personal life.

Lack of concentration

Stress causes a lack of concentration. Due to the mental stress in life, the mind gets affected as the result, their ability to concentrate will be reduced.

 Physiotherapy is an effective way to manage stress. A physiotherapist can help you to overcome mental stress and from all the health issues caused due to mental stress. They will provide instructions on the exercises to perform and about the diet which will help to recover from all impacts of stress. Besides providing treatment for stress, they provide techniques about how the stress can be prevented.

The physiotherapist will instruct the exercises to perform for body pain. They will recommend according to our body needs. This helps to release the tense muscles. They also tell about the proper posture for sitting, standing, sleeping and for movements.

Physiotherapy provides treatment for mental illnesses like anxiety, depression, anger, mood swings etc. Physiotherapists will encourage them to involve in physical activities and exercises while providing proper treatment for mental illness.

To some extent, stress can be normal in our life. But it can become serious if it is not managed properly. Proper medication and treatment are essential. Physiotherapy will play an important role in reducing stress. It is highly recommended to consult a physiotherapist if the stress is not effectively managed.
