Make the decision

Who will your product/service serve? Many self-employed persons declare, "I'll serve anyone who needs my product/service!" It doesn't provide useful knowledge into your target market.
Self-employment isn't about putting out your business and seeing who comes. Building a specific solution for a certain group.
Who? "Women 25-35" sounds specific but is actually fairly broad. Investigate. Worries? Are they SAHMs who want some alone time? Are they returning to work? More specifics improve marketability.
Set goals for success.
How will you measure whether your self-employment efforts pay off? How will you know whether to continue, turn, or quit?
Self-employed people must supply a viable product or service, attract first clients (who aren't family and friends), explain what they do in a compelling way, promote it successfully, and turn their time, effort, and energy into an income. You can't just become self-employed and "see how it goes."
Set and revisit precise goals. How many products/services will you sell in the first year? How will you sell? How can you market? Your product's positioning. What if you don't sell? Real-world questions abound. Consider responses before you need them.
Take care of the administrative details
Next, start a company. Sole proprietorship or LLC? What's the state registration? Do you need licences?

How will you handle day-to-day business? How will you price your goods? Who will you bill? How will you track profits and losses to determine where your business stands?
Decide where you’ll get your best work done
Being self-employed nowadays gives you numerous alternatives for how, when, and where to work. If your business doesn't require a physical presence open to clients, you can operate from home, cafes, a co-working facility, or obtain your own office space.
Start where you'll perform your finest job. Working from home may seem like a good alternative, but what happens when laundry, dishes, and other chores interfere with work? If you can't separate 'home' and 'work,' a co-working office may be for you.
Make connections and build your visibility
Every firm needs both a quality product or service and paying consumers. You need clients, but also community, network, and global support to succeed.
