Whether you're creating a diagram or a business card, you'll need to convert a JPG file into a vector format. While computer programs can't do this job, you can manually trace over the JPG file and see details that computer programs can't. Tracing over a JPG takes hours and requires an image editor that supports both raster and vector images. Avoid free online converters, as the results can be disastrous. For reliable conversion, download and use a trusted raster-to-vector software program like Scan2CAD.
Scan2CAD offers lightning-fast JPG-to-vector conversion
With its powerful feature set, Scan2CAD is an ideal choice for converting raster images to editable vectors. With over 20 types of vectors, this conversion tool allows you to convert all of your scanned images into editable files. You can even convert text from raster to vector, as well as recognize handwritten text. Whether you need to convert an image to vector for CAD purposes or just to get some ideas out, Scan2CAD can be a valuable tool.
While there are many other options available to convert raster to vector, Scan2CAD's Thresholding and Segment tools enable you to save the image in a format that best fits your needs. The Thresholding and Segment tools let you separate different shades of gray into black and white. The conversion is fast, too. With its free trial, you can try out the software's quality by converting up to 5 images.
GIMP
To start with, open a JPG image in GIMP and select it. From the image's left-hand side, select the Rectangle Select tool, a dotted rectangular icon. Click the image and a rough border will appear. Click Crop to Selection, then Autocrop to tighten the selection, and choose Save. After the process is complete, you can export your photo as a vector image.
The Save As dialog box will ask you for the type of file that you'd like to save. Often, this is a vector format such as EPS, and there are other options that allow you to customize the output. You can also change the page size, rasterization resolution, text output, and other options. Once the conversion is complete, press Save. GIMP will open the JPG image and prompt you to select an output destination. Press Export to confirm the process.
Deskewing tool
You can adjust the skew of your JPG image by using the deskewing tool in Scan2CAD. This tool lets you select an area of an image and drag the nodes to change the shade and size of the pixels. When you select a part of the image, you will see small boxes that indicate different areas for changing the shapes. This allows you to adjust the skew without changing the quality of the image.
To convert jpg to vector, you must first convert the file into a format supported by your CAD software. Most CAD software supports DWG and DXF file formats. If you have used AutoCAD software before, you will be familiar with the DWG format. This tool will make the conversion process a breeze. It will also let you perform a variety of other tasks as well, like optimizing raster images for conversion.
Adobe Illustrator
If you are looking for a simple way to convert a JPG file to a vector image, you can use Adobe Illustrator to do so. This program is used to create high-resolution, vector images. The first step in the conversion process is to open your JPG file. To do so, open Adobe Illustrator and double-click its icon on your desktop. Click on the File menu and then choose Open. From there, choose the JPG file you wish to convert to a vector image. To do so, choose Live Trace from the menu. This option will create a vector mapping of the source image, allowing you to resize and reposition the source image. After this process, save the new vector file in the desired vector file type.
Next, select the "PowerTRACE" tool. This tool is used to trace black-and-white illustrations with thick lines. Click on this tool in the top-left corner of your workspace and then select the 'Break Path' option. The tool will display the original JPG and a preview of the trace result. You can adjust the level of detail and smoothness by adjusting the sliders. In this case, I set the Smoothing slider to 21.
