I started reading the Viorel Romanian series because I was curious about the history of the country and wanted to learn more about its people. I found this series a good way to learn about Romania’s history and schooling. However, there are some problems with Viorel Achim’s work. Although he does a good job of explaining why large groups of people moved hundreds of miles from one kingdom to another five centuries ago, the book suffers from an overuse of arguments and facts that are ill-suited for the subject matter.
In one of the books, Viorel Iorga argues that it was a religious duty to create a new nation, and he is wrong. But Viorel Achim is of his generation, and conveniently forgets some of Iorga’s work. The book is filled with sexist jargon, such as the fact that the orthodox church used to deal in humans, and they are merely a poor substitute for a true Christian message.
