Making a Hermione granger costume can be very easy if you have a few items at home. Although the days of wearing costumes inspired by the Harry Potter book are long gone, you might still need to look like a wizard. You can dress up like Hermione Granger with the right costume, minimal makeup, signature hair and magical accessories. You should therefore get started and be fully prepared for your party or Halloween.

Wear a white shirt

The first thing you need to do is to check your closet and find a white shirt. You will need to wear a basic white button-down shirt.

Find a skirt

The good thing is that you can easily get a skirt even if you don’t have one in your closet. You should look for a black or grey skirt that almost touches your knees.

Choose a tie and vest

Choose a V-neck vest in black or grey to wear over your white shirt. Choose a tie that comes in Gryffindor colours to wear underneath your vest. You could also get a button-down cardigan instead of wearing a vest, especially if you aren’t going to be putting on a robe.

Choose shoes and socks

Get knee-high socks in solid colours such as black or grey and wear brown or black shoes in a simple style such as loafers or Mary Janes. Check for costumes online for inspiration.

Wear a robe

A robe can be found at costume stores, academic stores, online or at a thrift store. Just ensure you find one in great condition, as Hermione would not have worn robes. You should ask any academics or lawyers in your family if they have a robe that you could borrow for your costume. If so, be very careful not to attach a Hogwarts insignia permanently to the robe.

Makeup and styling hair

You should decide which hairstyle you want to achieve. If you are portraying a young Hermione, choose a busy and somewhat large hairstyle. If you are depicting an older version, choose loose waves that may be pinned at the side of your head. Keep in mind that Hermione has medium brown hair. You should therefore avoid blonde hair colours or light brown colours.

Style your hair

Your hair should be styled depending on the version of Hermione you wish to achieve. Blow dry your hair and brush it to create lots of volumes. Avoid using hairspray but let your hair be loose and frizzy. If you want to create wavy hair then you should rub mousse through your hair while it is wet. Separate your hair into two sections and braid the separate parts. You could end up with two braids that run down the sides of your head. Allow your hair to dry before you can un-braid it.

Keep your makeup minimal

After making your Hermione granger costume, you should keep your makeup minimal. Hermione is not known for lots of makeup and stylish dressing. You should try and keep your look natural.
