How to Pick the Correct Power Distribution Unit?

There are numerous factors to consider when deciding which power solutions to incorporate into your facility. You'll have to decide which Power Distribution Unit (PDU) will be best for your needs. In this blog post, let's look at four steps to make that decision easier.

Determine PDU Installation

It will help if you start by deciding whether you want to mount the PDU vertically or horizontally. Because it is attached to one of the rack's vertical rails, a PDU takes up no rack space (0U) when mounted vertically. Many PDUs even include button mounting to make this type of installation easier; slide the mounting buttons on the PDU into the mounting holes found on most major racks. This process takes only a few seconds and vastly improves on the traditional method of screw-mounting a PDU.

Identify PDU Installation

Decide whether you want to mount the PDU vertically or horizontally. When mounted vertically, a PDU takes up no rack space (0U) because it is attached to one of the rack's vertical rails. To make this type of installation easier, many PDUs include button mounting; slide the mounting buttons on the PDU into the mounting holes found on most major racks. This method is far superior to the traditional method of screw-mounting a PDU and takes only a few seconds.

Determine the Input and Output of the PDU

There are two more to go! After determining how to mount your PDU and what the input phase should be, you must consider the PDU's input and output. This part of your decision-making is straightforward, but it's crucial because it can cause major issues during installation. The various plugs and receptacles can be challenging to identify because connectivity types vary widely. That is why it is critical to be precise in your choices.

Selecting the Correct PDU

The final step! Once you've determined the PDU's application requirements, it's time to think about what you want to do with the PDU. We can categorise your options based on your responses into four categories: basic, local metered, monitored, or switches. Single-phase PDUs are available in all four categories, making this decision simple. Three-phase PDUs are available in metered, monitored, and switched configurations.
