Laser tag is an adrenaline-filled game, that’s also safe and clean. It’s suitable for all age groups and genders. You may have heard a lot about laser tag from friends or cousins, but you don’t exactly know what it is. If this is the situation that has brought you to this page, you’re at the right place! This blog is written for the purpose of letting beginners or newbies know what laser tag is, where it originated from, and how it is played.

Evolution of laser tag

The history of laser tag can be traced back to 1979, with the launch of the Star Trek Electronic Phaser toy from South Bend Electronics. This little toy then inspired what was to become a modern laser tag. It wasn’t until five years later in 1984 that the first game of laser tag was officially played.

It’s changed and evolved a great deal since then. What was seen as a game for kids, is now recognized as an engaging activity for all ages. But, laser tag isn’t remaining static. The game continues to change and evolve.

Ever since laser tag is popular across all age groups, so much so that, laser tag tournaments are held for local, regional, state, national, and international levels!

What exactly is laser tag?

Laser tag is basically a shooting game that is played mostly indoors in the dark, and at times, even outdoors in broad daylight. Here, players use light-emitting infrared guns to tag each other. Every player is required to wear an infrared signal vest, which when hit, tags them out. These beams are completely harmless, which means that the players have nothing to worry about. Neither do they have to wear any kind of safety equipment, like in other similar games?

How to play laser tag?

Understanding the gear

The first step towards understanding the game is to understand all the gear you’re decked up with and those that you’re holding too. This basically involves the vest and the gun. Try using the gun beforehand till you’re completely familiar with it. Understand the range you can shoot from, the different positions you can use to shoot, how you can reload your gun, and the sounds that the gun makes at various times. Also, understand how to wear the vest, tighten/loosen it if required while playing, and how it lights up when hit.
