We all know that staying properly hydrated has a huge effect on your body. It also affects your vision! If you aren’t drinking enough water, your vision could be affected.

Hydration most directly affects tear production. Tears lubricate your eyes, keeping them clear of dust and debris. Your tears and eyelids work almost the same way that windshield wipers and fluids keep your car windshield clean. If you aren't properly hydrated, the tear film over your eyes may be compromised. That could lead to irritation and blurriness.

Burning is often the first symptom of dry eyes. You may also get a sort of gritty feeling, as though you had something in your eyes. Dehydration can also cause you to become more sensitive to light.

Another reason that dry eyes can be damaging is that they can cause the surface of your eye to become rougher. This interferes with the way your eyes process light, and can contribute to eye strain and focusing problems. It can even lead to headaches

To keep your eyes healthy, be sure to drink plenty of water. The recommended amount is about half your body weight in ounces.

Be sure to visit your optometrist Brighton, MI at least once a year for exams and screenings.
