Is there a limit to how many times you can remortgage?

1 min read

The simple answer is "as many times as you want." No rule says you can only remortgage a certain number of times, but that doesn't mean you should do it every time. Furthermore, if you remortgage within your fixed-rate period, you'll pay an early repayment charge (ERC).

That isn't to say that remortgaging isn't popular. The number of persons who choose to remortgage their homes increased by 20% in 2019. Remortgaging can be a prudent choice for many homeowners, whether they need to transfer their mortgage because their fixed rate expires, they can find a better offer, or they want to generate additional funds.

The average mortgage is for 25 years, and most of them have fixed rates of two, five, or ten years. So, you may plan to remortgage 5 times on average on a 25-year mortgage with a standard five-year fixed rate. For better advice, you speak to a remortgage advisor.
