Kedarnath registration is compulsory for all devotees. Without completing the official registration on the Uttarakhand Tourism portal, you won’t be allowed to proceed beyond the checkpoint. Yes, even if you have hotel bookings, helicopter tickets, and a backpack full of dry fruits—you’ll be turned back.
The government has made this step compulsory to regulate crowd flow, ensure pilgrim safety, and coordinate emergency support in case of weather disruptions or natural hazards.

Kedarnath Registration
Kedarnath registration is mandatory for all pilgrims and completely free—there are no registration fees. You can complete registration for Kedarnath through the official Uttarakhand Tourism registration portal or Tourist Care app. The process requires basic details, ID proof, and a photo. After approval, download your QR code pass, which is compulsory to carry during the yatra.

Kedarnath Registration Fees
There is no separate fee for Kedarnath Yatra registration. It is free of cost, and every pilgrim must complete it to get a valid e-pass.
- Mobile App: Tourist Care Uttarakhand (Android/iOS)
- Documents Required: Aadhaar card / Voter ID / Passport + passport photo
- Registration Dates: Open for all yatra dates from May to November 2025
- QR Code: Mandatory to cross checkpoints – carry a digital or printed copy
- Fee: Free of cost
- Required for: All travelers – on foot, palki, pony, or helicopter
Why Is Kedarnath Registration Mandatory?
After the 2013 floods, and again following crowd surges in 2023–24, the government realized crowd control and real-time tracking of pilgrims is non-negotiable.
- Weather Warnings: Kedarnath is at over 11,000 ft. Sudden landslides, rains, and snow can close routes. Tracking ensures timely alerts.
- Daily Cap on Devotees: Only a limited number of pilgrims can reach Kedarnath daily.
- Emergency Support: In medical emergencies, registration helps officials track and assist quickly.
- Checkpoints: Registration barcodes are scanned before entry.
Online Registration Process
- Visit the official UTDB site: registrationandtouristcare.uk.gov.in
- Create an account with mobile number and email.
- Fill in traveler details (name, age, gender, ID proof, photo).
- Select travel dates and destination.
- Upload ID proofs.
- Download your QR-based Yatra Pass.
What Happens at the Checkpoint?
- Sonprayag Check Post – for those trekking from Gaurikund.
- Phata, Guptkashi, Sersi, Sitapur Helipads – for helicopter passengers.
Officials scan your QR pass. If your name or dates don’t match, entry is denied.
Trip Card for Commercial Vehicles
If traveling by commercial taxi or cab, a Trip Card is mandatory. It links each passenger’s registration with vehicle details and is checked at the first checkpoint (Dehradun or Rishikesh).
Helicopter Tickets Still Need Registration
Booking a Kedarnath helicopter ticket does not mean automatic registration. You still need to register on the UTDB portal. Without it, boarding is denied at helipads.

Offline vs Online Registration
Offline counters exist at Haridwar, Rishikesh, and Sonprayag. But these are crowded, slow, and risky during peak season. Online registration is free, fast, and safer for families and seniors.
What If You’re Doing Char Dham Yatra?
You must register separately for each dham—Kedarnath, Badrinath, Gangotri, and Yamunotri. Luckily, you can tick all four in one form and select different dates.
Documents Needed
- Government-issued photo ID (Aadhaar/Passport/Voter ID)

- Travel itinerary or date of darshan
- Recent passport photo
- Helicopter ticket (if applicable)
- Emergency contact number
Changing Travel Dates
You can reschedule once, at least 48 hours before the journey. A new QR pass must be downloaded.
