Mindfulness is defined as the ability of the person to be fully present. It’s the quality that every human being already possesses. It is a natural feeling or the state of mind that a person attains by practicing daily. Once the person becomes mindful, he/she does not get overwhelmed with what’s going around. In other words, the activities of the person are controlled and senses are balanced.
The different techniques are implemented to attain mindfulness like yoga and meditation. But sometimes they do not work well or deliver the result as expected. At this point, an occupational therapist comes as a saviour.

The primary reason that establishes a relationship between them is their person-centered approach. In both the therapies, the experts work on improving the condition of the person and try to build a connection mind-body. We already mentioned above that meditation is one of the preferred techniques that help in mindfulness. The occupational therapist helps the person to become present and centered through guided meditation. They share their thoughts and influence the person to get lost in him and forget about the things that are going around. The activities like closing the eyes, dim lighting, listening to slow music or staying silent, breathe listening are some of the techniques used in mindfulness.
Performs Body Scans
At the time of occupational therapy, the therapist walks through your body means he scans your body to make you aware of the same. Sometimes, you don’t know what your body is going through and the aspects you need to focus on. When you lie silently in a din-lit room with eyes closed, the therapist performs a body scan. He focuses on various areas and tries to spot the sensitivity on your body, which is very important for mindfulness.
Helps in breathing exercises
The breathing exercises implemented during occupational therapy helps the person by promoting relaxation and focusing on the present moment. It keeps the behavior of the person, especially when she/he is extremely frustrated or upset due to due to different reasons. It helps the feel different and positive.
These are the 3 ways how are occupational therapy is related to mindfulness. The techniques used in both are almost the same, but when worked or implemented together, they enhance the result of mindfulness. The occupational therapists work as an enhancer in mindfulness therapy.
