A Master’s degree in nutrition and dietetics helps students to deepen their knowledge and expand their perspectives on health, nutrition, and lifestyle. Emerging as one of the most popular sciences, human nutrition integrates knowledge from diverse areas of science to present a unified view of this dynamic discipline and its applications. Why do nutrition experts like registered dietitians?

The term ‘nutritionist’ is not a protected one. Anyone can call himself or herself a nutritionist. Individuals who register themselves with the healthcare council can call themselves a dietitian. Dietitians have a degree level qualification and follow a strict code of professional ethics.   A registered dietitian can prescribe medications, work with acutely ill patients and prescribe medications, and prescribe therapeutic intervention diets such as diet to support diabetics’ type 1.  A registered nutritionist can give general advice on food, healthy eating, and diets for disease prevention but need to refer to a dietitian in terms of therapeutic diets for specific medical conditions.  An evidence-based approach involves evaluating and assessing the many studies that are already been performed. For example, advising people to eat more vegetables is evidence-based advice as this is been backed by scientific studies demonstrating a strong association between vegetable intake and better health. However, advising people to cut dairy products from their diet because they are bad for health is not evidence-based advice. Once this evidence-based approach is applied t dairy products, the bulk of evidence tends to indicate that dairy products are generally positive for our health. The role of a registered nutritionist and dietitian is to clearly explain all the information to help the client to make informed choices about diet based on preferences and the latest science, as opposed to the latest food fads.  How do choose a nutrition expert? Check the qualifications; make sure that they are insured to give advice and look for them on Linked In. Remember if it sounds too good to be true it probably is and be very sceptical of any nutrition expert trying to sell supplements or tests as they tend to get a percentage of sales which can influence the advice given by them. The team of expert faculties from the industry provides intensive hands-on training and relevant insights to develop as health professionals.  The duration of the MSc. in nutrition and dietetics is for two years with the eligibility as passed graduation in bachelor of science with a specialization in food, nutrition, and dietetics/ bachelor of home science with food nutrition and dietetics/ B.sc with biochemistry/ Biotechnology/ life science/ microbiology/ B.sc with any other biological science.
