Gir National Park is a nice place to spend a thrilling holiday. People can come here and enjoy jeep safari rides to enjoy an adventurous wildlife sighting experience. Along with animals, the park has a temple which is famous among the local people living here. Apart from that temple, this park has a huge variety of flora and fauna. Let’s know about the fauna of this wild park. 

Animals 

Gir National Park has a huge forest area and the entire forest area of this wild park is dry and deciduous which provides the best habitat for Asiatic Lions.  According to the 2015 statistics, the entire Saurashtra Region is filled with 523 Lions and more than 300 Leopards. Along with these animals, deer can also be found here. Sambar deer can be found in large numbers and the Gir Forest is also famous for Chhowsingha- the World’s only four-horned antelope. Other smaller carnivores that can be found inside the park during your ride include jackal, striped hyena, Indian Fox, etc. 

Birds  

Gir National Park has exotic flora and because of that, it’s home to more than 425 species of birds. Moreover, the sanctuary has been declared an important bird area by the Indian Bird Conservation Network. This park is also a habitat of raptors like the critically endangered white-backed and long-billed vulture, the Egyptian Vulture, the vulnerable Greater Spotted Eagle, and the endangered Palla’s Fish Eagle. The Birds of prey breed like the crested Serpent Eagle, the Changeable Hawk Eagle, etc can also be found in this huge forest area. During the safari, mostly the Asian Paradise Flycatcher, the Red-breasted Flycatcher, the Fantail, etc are found. 

Reptiles 

Gir National Park is home to a variety of reptiles, it is blessed with more than 40 species of them and amphibians. There is a large reservoir in the area - Kamleshwar, where you can find a large number of Marsh Crocodiles. Even this park is home to a variety of snakes including King Kobra, Russell’s viper, Saw-scaled viper, and the Krait. Inside the sanctuary, one can see star tortoises and freshwater turtles, soft-shelled turtles, monitor lizards, and Indian rock pythons. The crocodile hatchery at this famous wild park is also an interesting place to see.
