This course is the third module in a comprehensive 16-course sequence that forms the Certificate Program in Bhagavad Geeta through Samskritam. In this course, students will delve into the teachings of the Bhagavad Geeta, specifically focusing on Chapter 2, while also gaining proficiency in simple Samskritam, the ancient language in which the Bhagavad Geeta was originally composed.
The course is part of the beginner phase of the Certificate Program in Bhagavad Geeta through Sanskrit and is designed to provide students with a solid foundation in the Sanskrit language by illustrating its elementary structures through the verses of the Bhagavad Geeta. Students will not only learn the meaning of each verse, but also the underlying structure of the language itself. This will allow them to think about the Bhagavad Geeta from within the Sanskrit language, gaining insights into the worldview that it represents.
The course will be taught by experienced faculty who will lead students verse by verse, in sequence through the Bhagavad Geeta, while also unraveling the meanings of the verses in Chapter 2 and explaining the nuances of the language. In addition to studying the Bhagavad Geeta, students will also be introduced to various elements of the Sanskrit language, including nouns, consonants, case endings, adjectives, adverbs, pronouns, different verb types and usages, and direct, indirect, and conditional speech. These concepts will be illustrated using sentence formation and structure found in the Bhagavad Geeta, providing practical examples and real-world applications of the language.
