Data can be of two types -qualitative and quantitative. Unlike qualitative data, quantitative Research companies base their collection on data and figures. Researchers prefer this method when they want a quantitative analysis of whether a behaviour or system should continue and how it can affect the group population. The result is objective.

The Meaning of Quantitative Data Collection

Quantitative data collection is a method where researchers can use statistics to get results. It is one of the primary data collection services in the country. You can find this type in experiments and surveys. Experts use this method to measure variables and find relationships between two or more groups. The data is generally in the form of means, frequencies, standard deviations, and others.

Methods of Quantitative Data Collection

Interview

The interview is one of the oldest forms of data collection methods. However, quantitative research companies ask a set of questions to gather data and nothing more than that. In contrast, normal interviews can have different types of questions from the same group of people.

Interviews are of three types:

Face-to-Face interviews – it is the oldest form of the interview where the interviewer asks the participants directly. Interviewers can also ask counter questions and this helps to gather exact information. It is one of the most expensive and time-consuming primary data collection services. Nevertheless, it is still relevant in the present day.

Telephonic Interview – Telephonic interview is also a traditional form of interviewing participants. Nowadays, interviewers are taking the help of video calling platforms like Skype to host telephonic interviews.

Computer-Assisted Personal Interviewing – it is a simulation of a face-to-face interview where the interviewer can upload the interview to the database directly. Quantitative Research companies have started opting for this method because it saves time and expenses.

Observations

Observation means gathering data by observing a particular event or effect. Here, the researchers gather data by counting the number of participants at an event or the number of people affected by a specific cause. Researchers need to have proper observation skills to get the answers to “what”.

Probability Sampling

It is one of the primary data collection services that businesses prefer to conduct. Reachers collect data from random people from a specific demographic to establish a probability statement. It gives flexibility to the researchers in the sense they can collect data from only the people they want. This method also rules out the idea of biases.

Probability Sampling is of four types –

Systematic Sampling – it is a form of probability sampling where the quantitative research companies select a demographic to conduct the test. The difference is the researchers select the first group randomly but the remaining groups follow a pattern of selection.

Simple Random Sampling – it is a basic method of probability sampling where the researchers include their target group in the sample.

Stratified Sampling – here, the researchers select every unit from a specific group of the targeted audience to include in the sample. Companies use this as one of the primary data collection services when they are very selective about who to include in their sample.

Cluster Sampling – here, the experts divide the group into smaller groups and pick up samples from each group.

Surveys or Questionnaires

It is one of the popular methods of sampling. Quantitative research companies use this method to gather bulk replies fast.

Although companies can gather qualitative data in various ways, these methods are the primary data collection services that you will find in the market. No one method is the best. You should choose wisely, and the best method depends upon various factors like time, budget, and others.
