An application that is meant to run on a mobile platform, such as a mobile phone, tablet, or wireless device, is referred to as a mobile application, mobile application, or just an application. Any software that can be accessed by a mobile device, such as a phone or tablet, and that utilises a mobile network, such as GPRS, CDMA, etc. is referred to as a "mobile application." Some mobile applications are based on their desktop counterparts and run on a PC. Other versions operate on an embedded platform and are downloaded as data from the internet. The majority of mobile application development is focused on creating software for tablets or smartphones with touch screens. An application that runs on a mobile platform is, in essence, a mobile application.
