I clearly remember my first visit to Kerala with my family, which was about 3 years ago. This was my first trip to Kerala, the state known as God’s Own Country. Superbmytrip was found when I was looking for packages for a family trip to Kerala, and I picked them as our holiday planner because of the best prices and customizable packages. The agents provided the great response and pricing with all needed facilities.
The tour was of 5 Days, we arrived in Cochin international airport at 4 AM. Even though it was too early, the driver was already waiting for us at the airport with the car. We decided to change our plan a little because we arrived so early and had so much free time to spend. We decided to go to Cherai beach in the morning and then travel to Munnar.
We arrived at Cherai Beach in 1.5 hours and enjoyed the beautiful sunrise at the beach. The beach was less busy, clean, and had less vendors and stalls. We could see some little fishing boats. We took some photos and then began our drive to Munnar. Cochin to Munnar route is very beautiful and it was filled with beautiful places like; Cheeyappara waterfalls and Valara waterfalls, both places were filled with people due to the season. In route we also visited Chillithodu and took an elephant ride at the village. While on the way to Munnar, we enjoyed clicking pictures at few Tea plantations. After Munnar, we decided to get back to the hotel, which was pre booked by Lock Your Trip’s agent. We reached to our hotel at 5 PM, we spend the remaining time in chilling at hotel and shopping at nearby markets. We also tried few traditional dishes of Kerala and my personal favorite was Kerala Prawns Curry.
Next morning, around 9 AM we left the hotel and around 10 AM we reached Munnar for exploring the area. In Munnar, we visited Rajamalai (Eravikulam National Park), Kanan Devan Tea plantations and Tea Museum, Rose garden, Mattupetty Dam, Top station and more beautiful places. We explored a range of spice-flavored cakes and muffins there, and they were unexpectedly delicious.
We went to the Tea Museum and Kanan Devan Tea Plantations. They displayed a documentary about the history of tea plantations and described how tea is made. We sampled a variety of tea flavors at a very low price, and all of them were extremely excellent in taste. We visited Top Station and also spent some time at Mattupetty Dam. It is located on the Kerala-Tamilnadu border and offers a spectacular view of a valley surrounded by woods and tea gardens. The scenery was enhanced by the frequent fog that covered the mountain peaks.
Next day, this was the third day of our Kerala family tour package. After having breakfast, we started our journey to Thekkady. Tea estates were soon replaced by cardamom trees just on the way from Munnar to Thekkady, although this added more beauty to the journey. The zigzag roads through the lush hills, the Nilgiri and Coconut trees on the side of the roads, the Cardamom and coffee plantations, and the cool and fresh air, all of them contributed to make the journey a joyful one and memorable. We hired a 4-hour forest tour in Periyar Tiger Reserve as soon as we arrived in Thekkady. The forest tour was a lot of fun and exciting. For our jungle safari, we had an open gypsy van with a driver and guide. Narrow and twisty jungle roads, a high-speed open gypsy, and a lush and deep forest all around, provided a true sense of adventure. We stopped at a number of locations to enjoy the beauty of the forest.
In the evening, we went to Kadathanadan Kalari, a traditional martial arts display, which was fantastic. We also experienced Navarasa Kathakali, a traditional Kerala dance show, but it wasn't very exciting because the dance style just includes facial expressions and we couldn't understand the theme very well, but it was fun to witness such a traditional dance style.
Next day, after having breakfast we left for Alleppey, We arrived at the Houseboat in Alleppey about 12.30 PM and started our incredible excursion through the backwaters. We were tired after our journey over the previous 3-4 days but relaxing on the houseboat's deck while watching the backwater beauties quickly revived us. We spent the entire afternoon on the boat's deck, talking and observing all of the small islands in the backwater, with rice crops and coconut palms, lovely tiny cottages and marketplaces, lotus floating on the water, and ducks and other birds happily swimming through the water. People were waving at random people on other houseboats, my family was enjoying this good gesture and it was quite fun. Alleppey is mainly known for its Backwaters and houseboats, people can enjoy overnight stays in houseboats at the backwaters of Alleppey.
For refreshment, boat’s crew made special tea with some kind of traditional snacks. We wanted to try some sea food, the captain took the boat to local market of sea food and bought some fresh sea fish. We tried cooking that fish in traditional Kerala style in boat’s kitchen with the help of available on board chef. The sunset was the most beautiful view I have ever witnessed in my entire life. The houseboat was very clean and the staff was very helpful in every way.
Next morning, we woke up to the beautiful view of backwater and had the breakfast offered by the crew of houseboat. After that, we left Alleppey and headed towards Ernakulam Railway Station, strangely the driver was waiting outside the houseboat, after reaching Ernakulam Railway Station we bid farewell to the driver and to the God’s own country and started our journey to home with lots of good memories.
As our family's trip to Kerala began, I understood that calling this state "God's own country" was not an illusion. Kerala kept us wanting more no matter how much we saw or how far we traveled. The people were friendly, the vibe was lovely, and none of the tourist attractions disappointed us, my family enjoyed this trip to Kerala, and Superbmytrip made this trip easy for me, the package named Kerala family tour package was best according to me.
