National Disability Insurance Scheme

In Australia, there are around 4.3 million people who face disabilities. To support them, there is the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) which offers to fund about an estimated 500,000 Australians with permanent and significant disabilities. With that,  NDIS provides all the people with disabilities with information and connections to services such as doctors, sporting clubs, support groups, libraries and schools that are specially made for their community.

But what does NDIS or National Disability Insurance Scheme mean? Well, read through to understand what lies in the core of this scheme.

National

It stands for a progressive introduction of the scheme across all states and territories in Australia.

Disability

NDIS supports all people with intellectual, physical, sensory, cognitive and psychosocial disabilities. People with the above-mentioned disabilities or issues and children with developmental delays are benefited from the intervention support.

Insurance

Under NDIS you’ve assured peace of mind if you, your child or any loved one acquires or is born with a permanent and significant disability. With NDIS, you’ll receive all the needed support.

Scheme

Don’t confuse NDIS as a welfare system. Instead, it is designed to support people with disabilities so that they can improve their skills and independence improves over time.

NDIS Plan Management

NDIS Plan Management your funding is managed. There are many plan management systems, so it is essential that you choose the best. The reality is that every time you access a service or a piece of equipment using your NDIS plan, transactions happen. Each of the transactions has to follow the rules of the NDIS so that it can be tracked and accounted for whenever needed.

Plan management is the choice about who is responsible to track your budgets and paying the service providers under NDIS.

Who is eligible for NDIS Plan Management?

There are four common ways plan management is done:

Agency-managed

These agency-managed plans are directly managed by the National Disability Insurance Agency (NDIA). It is one of the most popular ways people choose to manage their finances. NDIA is responsible for paying providers if you've purchased any services or equipment from them. The primary benefit of agency-managed support is that you do not have to track spending and manage the finances. Instead, you just need to organize and receive the services. The downside is that it is not fully flexible.

Self-managed

Self-managed plan management is great if you’re ready to take complete control of your plan. Under such management options, you’ve to take care of organising your own services, doing all the complex paperwork, managing money, etc. Accessing some part of your plan and booking services with providers who aren’t registered with NDIS are some of the benefits of this plan. While disadvantages are that you have to take the risks and challenges of managing all the finances and organize service agreements with providers yourself.

Plan managed

In this option, a third-party manager or an NDIS plan manager like Myndr works on your behalf. Opposed to agency-managed, here you meet your plan manager. There are many advantages such as reduction of administrative burden, and partial responsibility of fund spending. The only thing you have to do is pay your  NDIS plan manager but that too can be covered under plan management.

Combination

In this case, you can choose between different ways of plan management to suit your special requirements with different parts of your NDIS.
