Oligonucleotide Synthesis is the direct physical expression of a nucleic acid chain reaction that results in the generation of a DNA sequence by random synthesis. Oligonucleotides are very long sequences of DNA that are helical in nature. Nucleic acid is the genetic material that makes up DNA, the building block of life. It is a highly complex material composed of various amino acids, sugars, and other molecules. It is a system that can be studied at the molecular level and used for biochemistry research and development. Developed countries such as the U.S. and Canada have a strong foothold in the oligonucleotide synthesis market.
The use of synthesized oligos in therapeutic applications has increased significantly over the years. Recently, in April 2020, Biolytic Lab Performance Inc. launched its novel oligo synthesizer Dr. Oligo 768XLc for high throughput nucleic acid synthesis. This newly synthesized oligo is designed to be operated in both research & development activities as well as production facilities since it is suitable for the needs of organizations laying emphasis on therapeutic and diagnostic applications. Thus, such factors can augment growth of the oligonucleotide synthesis market.
Oligonucleotides can be made into any shape and size as long as the strands can be connected together. One such method for the production of oligonucleotides is Polymerase chain reactions (PCRs). Another key factor that is aiding the adoption of oligonucleotide synthesis is rising government investments for synthetic biology and genome projects. Governments of many countries are focused on allotting grants for genome projects, in order to promote genome engineering and synthetic biology. Hence, such funding can potentially stimulate growth of the oligonucleotide synthesis market in the near future.
