What is Java?

Java is a programming language based on C and C++. Java is a high-level, class-based, object-oriented, and secure programming language. Java was developed by Sun Microsystems  in 1995. James Gosling is known as the "father of Java." Before Java, it was known as Oak. And since Oak was already a registered company, Gosling and its team renamed it as Java. Java is now handed over to Oracle Corporation.

APPLICATIONS OF JAVA

Java has come a long way since the year of its introduction. The security feature of Java makes it extremely popular. There are many devices where Java is used and some of the applications of Java are as follows:

The Java Platform, Standard Edition:

The Java Language Specifications and Java Virtual Machine Specifications (for Java Class Library) included in Java APIs are defined by Java SE.

Java Platform Enterprise Edition:

Java Platform Enterprise Edition is a concomitant specification that has the same basis as Java SE and is mainly used to develop web and enterprise applications.

The Java Platform Micro Edition:

Java Platform Micro Edition is a micro platform committed to mobile applications and is intended to provide a certified collection of Java APIs for the development of software for small, resource-constrained devices such as set-top boxes etc.

Java FX:

JavaFX is used to develop Rich Internet Applications (RIA). This software platform is used for creating and delivering desktop applications. It has support for desktop computers and Web browsers on Microsoft Windows, Linux, etc., and also mobile devices running iOS and Android.

JAVA AND JAVASCRIPT:

Although Java and JavaScript appear similar as they both are programming languages, they have a huge difference in them. 

Java is used for the back-end and Java Script is used for the front-end.The syntax of Java is similar to C++. On the other hand, the syntax of Java Script is similar to C.Java requires the Java Development Kit (JDK), while Java script can be written in any text editor.Java is used for various apps, while Javascript is used mainly for webapps.Java allows better security, and JavaScript needs more effort to enhance security.Java is executed in JVM or in the browser while javascript can be executed in the browser.

All these differences make Java and Java script poles apart from each other.
