McLaren driver Oscar Piastri has brushed aside concerns that he could face a frosty reception from British fans at the upcoming British Grand Prix, where teammate Lando Norris will enjoy the backing of his home crowd.

During the press conference ahead of the Austrian Grand Prix, Piastri was asked if he was prepared for the possibility of a hostile atmosphere at Silverstone, given Norris’ rising status as a local hero and the fierce championship battle developing between the pair.

Piastri, however, remained unfazed. “I mean, I certainly hope that part’s not going to happen,” he said calmly. “The British fans are normally very accepting for all of us and especially for us as McLaren.”

Before Piastri could finish, Norris was quick to step in and echo his teammate’s sentiments, urging supporters to show respect and sportsmanship. “I think the first point should be for all the fans to embrace everyone and to support everyone,” Norris said.

Norris has become a fan favourite in Britain, but McLaren’s strong form this season means both drivers are genuine title contenders. Despite the potential for tensions to rise in the stands, the team is keen to project unity and mutual respect.

The British Grand Prix at Silverstone is set to be a pivotal race in the championship fight. While Norris will undoubtedly enjoy passionate support, Piastri is confident he will also be welcomed warmly by the knowledgeable and enthusiastic British fans.
