The most prevalent kind of osteoporosis, Postmenopausal Osteoporosis, is caused by an insufficient amount of estrogen. Due to impacts on all types of bone cells, estrogen deprivation causes an increase in bone turnover. Trabecular bone (loss of connection) and cortical bone are both affected by the imbalance in bone creation and resorption (cortical thinning and porosity). Using lumbar spine and proximal femur bone density measures, osteoporosis is identified. Diet, exercise, and quitting smoking are all preventive measures to enhance bone health. Several medications, including bisphosphonates and Denosumab, have been approved to lower the risk of fracture by reducing bone resorption or by promoting bone formation (such as teriparatide). New medications with specific targets for the cellular causes of osteoporosis have been developed.
