On Saturday, President William Ruto presided over the swearing-in ceremony of the new leadership team of the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) at State House, Nairobi. During the ceremony, he urged the military leadership to uphold the integrity of the military and serve Kenyans without bias.

President Ruto commended Kenya for having a diligent, professional, and outstanding military tradition. He further expressed confidence in General Francis Ogolla, who was sworn in as the Chief of the Defence Forces, saying that he merits the Office. General Ogolla took over from General Robert Kibochi, who retired.

Lieutenant General Jonah Mwangi was also selected by the President as the vice chief of the armed forces. Lieutenant General Mwangi previously held the position of Vice Chancellor at the National Defence University in Kenya.

In addition to these appointments, the President also appointed several Major Generals and Brigadiers to various positions within the KDF. Major Generals David Kipkemboi Keter and Abdulkadir Mohammed Burje have been appointed as the Assistant Chief of the Defence Forces Personnel and the Director of Military Intelligence,

respectively and Logistics (ACDF P&L), Major General David Kimaiyo Tarus as the Deputy Commander Kenya Army, Major General Jeff Mungai Nyagah as the General Officer Western Command (GOC WESTCOM), and Major General William Karisa Shume as the General Officer Border Security Command (GOC BSC).

The President called upon the armed forces to support other agencies in advancing the country’s transformation agenda. He emphasized the importance of upholding the Constitution and serving Kenyans without bias.

Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, Cabinet Secretaries for Defense and Interior Aden Duale, as well as other dignitaries, attended the swearing-in ceremony.
