Sometimes the reason is that they are simply breaking the ball, sometimes it\'s because of Mother Nature, and for those of us who are unlucky, we may not even know how it broke at all! The first step in replacing window glass at home is to make sure all of the old glass has been removed properly. This is a fairly simple task, but you should still do it with caution because it is easy to disconnect if you don\'t pay close attention. First, putty should be removed at the bottom of the window. You can do this quite well with a putty knife or spatula. After removing all traces of caulk, wearing protective gloves, remove the window frame and lay it on a flat surface. Remove all the broken glass as soon as you remove each broken piece one by one.
The second step in replacing your home window glass is to double check and make sure there really is no putty once all the glass has been removed. Sometimes it can be very difficult to handle the paste and it is easy to use something like a hair dryer to warm it up before working on it. As you move around the frame, you will find what are called Glazier points. These are small metal triangles that are placed in the frame under the putty to help hold the glass in place. You will have to delete them too. Once this is done, check and check the frame to make sure it is perfectly smooth and even.
If the frame is an old frame, you need a generously coated linen siding on all sections of the wood around the frame to maximize the life of the putty to be placed on it to keep the new window panel in place.
The next step is to apply a new layer of putty to the frame. This is perhaps the most important step when it comes to replacing home window glass. A very thin layer should be used around the frame where the glass will be placed. The layer should not be too thick and it will take some experience to get it right; otherwise the putty will swell when the new window pane is inserted and visibility increases.
The new window portion being inserted should be a little smaller than the space it will take up, and less than an inch when it comes to replacing the home window glass. Use a glass cutter If the window size of the window is not really the size, it should fit well.
Next, put the plate in place or have another person put it in place while the other person inserts Glazier stitches on either side of the plate to securely secure it. The stitches should be placed every four inches on each side. This step requires a second person unless you are not very comfortable replacing window glass in your home.
The Glazier should be used to carefully push the Glazier points into the wood. The tool should slide along the glass to avoid causing cracking carefully.
To complete the replacement of the main window glass, the putty to be used to hold the part in place must be attached to long strips the diameter of a pencil. The putty should be lump-free and fully elastic, if not already, it should work out a bit. Put putty in one corner of the window frame and tape around the panel. Once the putty is placed around the plate, smooth it with a spatula so that the contour is as smooth as possible to avoid any abrasion. So there you are, you\'re done.
