GreenerWay Asbestos removal Kingsgrove is a local firm, experienced in the safe removal and decontamination of homes where asbestos has been used as a construction material. If you, or a tradesman who was carrying out work on your property suspect that there is asbestos present, we can clean up this health hazard for you. Asbestos dust and the asbestos fibers in this dust are one of the most dangerous legacy construction materials still found in older buildings today. This is a real, tangible health risk that is still the cause of deaths in modern times.
Where is asbestos usually found?
The Government of Australia banned asbestos in 2003. Unfortunately, asbestos had already been used as a construction material from the 50’s onwards without the knowledge of the health risks it poses. It was a good, cheap and strong building material and was used in all types of construction projects. Homes, offices, schools and even hospitals. It is generally used in the walls, ceiling, flooring, eaves and roof linings. These are the places we would check for asbestos in your home.
Many free standing garages were built from asbestos and even boundary fences were made from asbestos. While the fences were the first asbestos structures to be replaced, so durable is the dangerous material that many garages constructed from it are still standing today.
Why is asbestos dangerous?
When left alone, asbestos doesn’t pose a high risk to health. Only when it is disturbed through breakage or sanding does it become dangerous to humans. Asbestos is made by compressing billions of tiny fibers, so small in fact are the fibers that when the asbestos sheet is broken or disturbed in any way, the fibers become airborne and can be easily inhaled without knowing.
Asbestos dust is made up of many millions of small fibers, which can float in the air. These fibers, when breathed into the lungs, can cause a wide range of illnesses including asbestos-induced lung cancer (mesothelioma) which is fatal in most cases.
