Radiologik DJ version 1.0
Radiologik DJ is a groundbreaking new VST/AU plugin that allows you to mix and scratch digital audio like a real vinyl turntable. It contains an easy-to-use interface with which you can make seamless transitions between tracks, alter playback speed, pitch or even isolate specific elements within individual songs. Its built-in effects library adds even more mixing possibilities, including: high quality echoes, delays and reverbs. You can also export your work as high quality 96KHz/24 bit .wav files ready to be burned to CD or uploaded straight onto SoundCloud (or other similar websites).

Why use it?
Radiologik DJ is a fully featured DJ app, which offers you everything you need to be a great DJ. With only one application window, it can transform your computer into a full-fledged professional quality mixing console, and enable you to take your computer-based performances to new heights. Highly responsive to DJs’ demands, Radiologik features comprehensive support for all popular audio formats—including MP3, AAC/M4A (AAC lossless), FLAC, WAV and more. It has built-in iTunes library management and automatic beat-matching capabilities are provided through BPM detection—all without any additional hardware or software installation required.

What you get
You get support for all popular audio formats including MP3, AAC, WAV, and FLAC. You also get smart volume normalization as well as a built-in analyzer to help you quickly adjust your music's sound level. If that's not enough, there are also real-time filters that let you add effects like echo or chorus. Radiologik's automatic sync engine makes it easy to mix songs together smoothly. Finally, it's simple to convert your old tapes into digital format thanks to its direct input from cassette players.

Main screen
This is your music library. It can be broken down into two parts, separated by a waveform: audio tracks and samples. Audio tracks are your mix songs, which you’ll edit together to create your final product; samples are tiny chunks of sound that you can use to add variety or humor to your tracks—you’ll learn more about them later. They look like little audiocassettes floating above an imaginary tabletop. To remove them from view, click on a sample's left side; once you've cleared out all of your samples, click on another sample to bring it back into view. There’s also an autoplay icon in between these two sections that I won't touch until we talk about effects loops in Part 2: Synthesis and Effects.

Remixer screen
Remixer is a functional and intuitive turntable / mixing controller. It provides a convenient way to scratch, spin and mix tracks while providing you with real-time waveform and musical key information. As soon as you’ve mixed two songs together, Remixer shows you which parts of both songs are in perfect sync (green waveforms) or not in sync (red waveforms). You can then manually adjust their position until they’re both green, so your mashup sounds like it was meant to be that way from the start. You’ll also see useful music key information and BPM info for all tracks that you can use to quickly beatmatch your tracks with precision.

Effects screen
Each effect has a big button that turns it on or off, and all effects have an optional crossfade, auto-crossfade (based on beat detection), and effect level. If you need to tweak settings, each effect has a small menu with a list of available parameters. To make things easier, crossfades automatically add fade ins or outs at either end of your music to avoid clicks when switching between sections. This works great in practice; I often had trouble noticing where one track ended and another began because Radiologik was making them flow together so well.

Practice screen
Mac music-mixing software has come a long way over the past decade. A little while ago, a good option was to pay $99 and use Traktor DJ Studio (now Traktor Pro 2) or something similar. That's not so true anymore—many new music apps are available at no cost to you. Some of them are even free software like Audacity, which has been around since 2002 and offers professional features like multitrack recording and advanced audio effects, including pitch correction, time-stretching, beat-slicing, reverberation, and more.

Presets window
This is where you load and save presets, as well as browse a list of all presets. It’s also possible to share your presets using a preset pack. And remember, you can create a new preset right inside Radiologik! Just select a track (or even multiple tracks), tweak some settings, hit Save Preset and your brand new preset will be waiting in Presets panel when you close it.

Preferences window
The Preferences window is arguably one of Radiologik's best features. Changing your preferences makes it easy to quickly modify how Radiologik works, with a few clicks of your mouse. We'll begin by clicking on Preference in Radiologik's top bar, and then click on Behavior. You'll now be looking at a variety of different options; here are just a few notable ones
