So today being Rama Navami we went to the Rama Bhakta Anjaneyar Temple at Kolathur/Madhavaram. Actually, we are not very sure about the area as the address (Roja Nagar) seems to appear in both Kolathur and Madhavaram. Anyway, this Google Maps link should guide you better with the location.

This is a small Temple but has a nice Anjaneyar statue installed on the top. This Temple also has Rama, Sita & Lakshmana idols, a rarity in South India. On the day we went, we were pleasantly surprised to see a Lady Archagar doing the puja and Harthy. I think it’s a good sign of progression.

One more thing we noticed – here, unlike most Temples, they don’t let visitors to light small agal-velakkus (oil lamps) but instead, they have a large lamp where the visitor can buy and pour the ghee/oil. I guess this Temple management wants to be different

We also went to the nearby Sankat Mochan Hanuman Temple. I guess this has been established by North Indian management as the name board is predominantly in Hindi (and also in Tamil). Besides, we also found Krishna/Radha statues in white marble. But the main deity is Hanuman in black stone and the temple seems to have some South Indian elements too. Fusion.

Anyway, if you happen to go to that part of Chennai, these two Temples are good places to visit. Actually, we wanted to go to the Kari Varadaraja Perumal Temple but Google Maps guided us to these two Temples instead Not to worry, we’ll go there also shortly
