An opacity comparison can become misleading when the layers underneath the edited layer change between views. The same opacity value may be judged against a light background in one screenshot and a dark one in another.
Record the layer being adjusted, its opacity value, its blend mode, and the visible background. Include a panel screenshot or a written note if the canvas view does not show those choices. Name the layer rather than referring only to “the selected layer.”
When comparing two opacity values, keep the source image, layer order, background, crop, and viewing scale consistent. If another choice must change, describe it beside the pictures. Readers need to know that the difference includes more than an opacity adjustment.
Keep the layered working file with the exported comparison when the application supports it. The export preserves the view supplied for review, while the working file retains the setup that produced it. Label the files so a flattened result is not mistaken for the editable source.
