Recycling in Manhattan

Many would prefer not to send recyclables to landfills and would pay a fee to be able to reuse their recyclable items. This, however, is a costly proposition for the city, which is already operating on an emergency budget and must find ways to save money wherever possible. A senior fellow at Manhattan Institute and author of a forthcoming report on municipal recycling Manhattan KS across the United States, says that recycling in New York City may actually be worse for our city's environment than we think.

Some common household items that are recyclable in New York City can be composted. Food scraps, such as vegetable and fruit peels, can be composted. However, other items, such as flowers, houseplants, and even take-out boxes, must be properly packaged and separated from grease. If you don't know where to begin composting your household waste, check with your local green market for a collection day.

Many municipalities are facing a recycling crisis. In fact, garbage trucks in Manhattan travel 7,8 million miles every year, equivalent to driving 312 times around the earth. On the other hand, residents of the five boroughs of Manhattan can make use of more than 4,500 recycled-content products in their daily lives. As the state of the environment becomes more important to citizens, a recycling crisis will continue to grow. If you want to help solve this problem, make a change today.
