Which Is The Best Time For Silk Route Tour Plan From Kolkata?

The Silk Route in East Sikkim is a stunning place in the eastern part of Sikkim, and it changes its appearance throughout the year.

In August and September, a special spot called Zuluk, with its zig-zag road, becomes a vibrant display of wildflowers. These flowers cover the area in a rainbow of colors. It's a real treat for the eyes, especially when you see the rhododendrons in full bloom.

As the seasons come and go, the Silk Route landscape changes too. From January to April, the region turns into a winter wonderland as soft white snow covers everything. This is the perfect time for people who love snow activities like skiing, snowboarding, and snowshoeing.

In the rainy season, from May to July, the area is often covered in thick fog, creating a mysterious and intriguing atmosphere. But once the rains stop, the region enjoys pleasant and clear weather for the rest of the year.

Whether you're a nature lover, an adventurer, or just seeking a peaceful getaway, the Silk Route has something to offer everyone throughout the year. From the vibrant wildflowers to the serene snow-capped mountains, a Silk Route tour promises a unique and unforgettable experience that will leave you enchanted.

Important Information to Consider Before Booking a Silk Route Tour Package from Kolkata

The Silk Route is a remote and pristine tourist destination that may not offer all the modern facilities and amenities you're accustomed to. Some travelers may have misconceptions about the food, facilities, amenities, and hotel rooms in this region. Let's start by understanding some key facts you should be aware of before embarking on a Silk Route Tour.

Limited Modern Facilities: Don't expect modern amenities during your Silk Route package tour from Kolkata. Many of the places you'll visit are remote villages, far from urban conveniences. While you'll have basics like Western-style toilets, running water, and hot meals (often consisting of dishes like egg curry and local vegetables), you won't find luxury amenities like fancy furniture, TVs, internet access, cable TV, geysers, or on-demand mineral water.

Nathang Valley Considerations: Staying in Nathang Valley is not recommended for children and the elderly. Located at an altitude of 13,200 ft, Gnathang Valley (or Nathang) is popular among Silk Route travelers and is often called the "Ladakh of East India" due to its similarities to Leh Ladakh. However, the extreme altitude and cold can cause discomfort, including dizziness, vomiting, and headaches. Nights in Nathang can be extremely cold, with temperatures dropping below zero. Elderly travelers should visit Nathang during the day and return to a lower altitude afterward, with the option of carrying a portable oxygen cylinder for safety.

Identification and Documents: Guests must carry their original and photocopies of identification documents such as voter cards, driver's licenses, or passports, along with at least two passport-sized color photographs. For children or minors, birth certificates or school IDs are essential.

Emergency Supplies: Carry dry fruits, nuts, chocolate, hot coffee, popcorn, ginger cubes, and biscuits for emergencies. In unpredictable situations like landslides, roadblocks, or snowstorms, a portable oxygen cylinder and oxygen meter in the car can be life-saving. If you have prescribed medications, ensure you have them on hand.

First Aid Kit: Include medicines for fever, cold, cough, headaches, stomach upsets, paracetamol, ointment, band-aids, Vaseline, Boroline, and Volini spray in your first aid kit when traveling along the Old Silk Route.

Warm Clothing: Be sure to pack ample woolen clothes, gloves, hats, and wind-protective eyewear, as sub-zero temperatures may be encountered in some areas.

Cash Availability: Have sufficient cash in small denominations, as ATM facilities are limited after Rongli. It's advisable to withdraw cash from NJP or Bagdogra where more ATMs are available. High altitudes can sometimes lead to cash withdrawal issues due to connectivity problems and ATM cash replenishment delays.

GST Charges: GST applies to the package cost.

Bikers' Compliance: For bikers on a Silk Route adventure, ensure you carry all the necessary documents for your vehicles. Failing to produce valid paperwork can lead to problems during your tour.

Alcohol Consideration: We do not recommend consuming alcohol at high altitudes during your Silk Route Tour from NJP. If you choose to do so, bring your preferred brand, as options may be limited at high altitudes.

Leech Awareness: When visiting forested areas in lower altitudes, like SilleryGaon, Ramdhura, and Rongpokhola, be mindful of leeches.

Plastic-Free State: Sikkim is a plastic-free state, so please refrain from discarding any plastic bags or bottles. The motto is "PLEASE TAKE NOTHING BUT PICTURES AND LEAVE NOTHING BUT FOOTPRINTS."

Lastly, while you're on your Silk Route Tour Package with NatureWings Holidays, focus on enjoying your trip rather than worrying about what you do or don't have.
