Worldwide an estimated 12.5 million tons of plastic products are used in agricultural production yearly with films accounting for around 60% of this.
The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations recently published a report assessing the sustainability of agricultural plastic products. The report recommends biodegradable and bio-based plastic as a sustainable alternative in some areas of agricultural value chain.
