Micro-LED (sometimes spelled mLED or LED) is a display technology that uses small (thus, micro) LED diodes to directly produce color pixels. Micro-LED displays have the potential to develop extremely efficient and attractive flexible displays that can compete with today's high-end OLED displays. Current LED displays are essentially LCD displays with LED backlighting units that are constantly on and a liquid-crystal layer that is utilized to form the image (i.e. block the light where needed).
