Maslow's theory of the hierarchy of needs, Alderfer's ERG theory, McClelland's theory of achievement motivation, and Herzberg's two-factor theory all concentrated on what motivates people and addressed particular elements such personal needs and objectives.
Understanding what motivates a person to strive for a specific end or goal is the subject of the study of motivation theory. Although it applies to every aspect of society, business and management stand to gain the most from it. This is true because motivated employees are more productive, and more lucrative employees are those who are more productive.
