Table Tennis World Rankings: Table Tennis is a sport dominated by a few countries, most of them are in East Asia. The likes of China, South Korea, and Japan have won a vast majority of gold medals in international competitions.

India is not a part of this elite group of Table Tennis nations. India has been a dormant power for decades when it comes to table tennis. Now, a new crop of talented paddlers has invigorated hope of medals in Table Tennis in the Olympics and World Championships. 

Here are the top five ranked Table Tennis players of all time. These encompass all genders and disciplines.

Manika Batra

Manika Batra is the face of Table Tennis in India. One of the most recognizable individual sports athletes in the country, Manuka is currently ranked No. 36 in the International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF) rankings in Women’s Singles. She also ranks No.8 in the Mixed Doubles rankings.

 

Manika has been one of the most decorated Table Tennis stars in recent times. She has two Commonwealth golds, a silver, and a bronze to her name. She has also won a bronze in the Asian Games and one in the Asian Championships.

Harmeet Desai

Harmeet Desai has been the most in-form Indian paddler this year. Despite not winning a major tournament yet, he has been making deep runs in several WTT events. Due to his fine form, Desai has, for the first time in his career, cracked the top 100 in Men’s Singles rankings. He is currently ranked 69th.

Harmeet Desai has won two Commonwealth gold medals as part of India’s TT Men’s team. He also has three bronze medals at the Asian Championships and one at the Asian Games.

Manav Thakkar

India’s next great hope, Manav Thakkar has been the ITTF Under-21 World No.1. Currently ranked 86th in the Men’s Singles ranking, Manav is considered the future flagbearer of Indian Table Tennis.

Thakkar represented India in the 2018 Asian Games as part of the Men’s team and won a bronze medal. He has also been rapidly rising ranks of international Table Tennis.

Sreeja Akula

Another rising name in the world of Table Tennis, Sreeja Akula is currently the second highest-ranked Indian in Women’s Singles, being ranked 88th.

Sreeja most recently won a gold at the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Mixed Doubles along with Indian Table Tennis great Sharath Kamal. She has been rising the ranks since.

Sathiyan Gnanasekaran

Sathiyan Gananasekaran is arguably the best Indian Table Tennis player of the last five years. Having climbed up to as high as 24th, his recent run of bad form has cost him dearly in ranking, as he is currently ranked 107th in the Men’s Singles. Although, his doubles form has been decent, as he is ranked eighth (alongside Manika Batra) in Mixed Doubles.

Sathiyan has won two golds, two silvers, and two bronzes in his Commonwealth Games career. He has also won three bronzes at the Asian Championships, and one bronze in the Asian Games.
