The next step to apply for a visa is to create your account on the official website of the US Department of State. When closing with a course in the US for a full-time course, the student must receive a form called an I-20. This form is the necessary document to apply for an F-1 student visa. In case the foreign student goes to the United States as an exchange student, the American organization or the government agency that is arranging the trip must send him a form known as IAP-66, which is the necessary document to request and obtain the J-1 visa.

Students enrolled in technical schools receive an M visa. However, it is important to remember that if the student enters the country with an M visa and then decides to transfer to a "College", "University" or intensive English course, under no circumstances it will be possible to change the visa from M to F.

In case the student goes to the US to study English and then enter a "College" or "University", the American Embassy or Consulate in Brazil may require a kind of admission letter (conditional acceptance) from the institution that the student intends to attend after completing the English course.

In this conditional admission letter, the institution itself undertakes to accept the student at a later date, if the student satisfactorily completes their English course. In this case, the student will also need an I-20 form submitted by the English school to obtain their visa.

After receiving the I-20 or IAP-66 form, the applicant must fill it out correctly and take it along with his passport to the American Embassy or Consulate, the agency responsible for issuing visas to non-immigrants.

When obtaining the visa, the student must request from the Consulate another form known as “Affidavit” or “Support” in which he must describe the financial conditions relating to the way he intends to cover expenses during his stay abroad.
