Traditional vs. self-service BI | Intellipaat

When using traditional BI tools and processes, the BI team or IT handles data analysis for business users. In this method, users request new analytical queries, which are written and executed on their behalf by BI analysts or other BI experts. Similarly, users request new reports and BI dashboards after BI staffers have gathered their requirements.
After a project has been approved, the BI team gathers the necessary data or, if necessary, collaborates with IT to extract it from source systems, transform it, and clean it before loading it into a data warehouse or other data store, which can take weeks in some cases.

After creating queries to produce those results, the BI team creates a dashboard or report to display the requested analytics results.
In contrast, a self-service BI environment allows business analysts, executives, and other users to run queries and create their own data visualization, dashboards, and reports. Because some users may not be tech-savvy, it is critical that the user interface (UI) in self-service analytics software is simple to use and intuitive. Self-service BI systems, on the other hand, should be able to meet the needs of both power users and casual users who may only need to view data.

Self-service users should be trained to understand the available data, how to query it, and how to use it to make data-driven business decisions. Members of the BI team frequently advocate for BI best practices throughout the organization and provide users with ongoing support as needed.
